Pulling R9 adaptor?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to do this without a shaft puller? I got a great deal on a Black Ops shaft but it has an R9 adaptor on it. I have a titleist adaptor and would like to do it myself. Will it damage the shaft if I put the end in bouling water? Don't wanna screw it up so trying to get my ducks in a row.

If you have never pulled a graphite shaft and do not have the equipment, save yourself some heart ache and go to a club builder and have them pull it.

It only takes a vise, pry bar, and heat but it is pretty tricky.  The epoxy holding the adapter on melts at like 150* but the epoxy holding the fibers together melts around 200*.

Nah, not with the adapter. You don't need all that. Just a screw that fits the adapter (I have some if you need me to mail you one) and a vice. Thread the screw in till it bottoms out. Then you can take channel locks or, if you're like me and have some lying around, a piece of scrap metal with a hole drilled in it that the screw is tight in. Then run the screw through the hole and tighten in the adapter. Warm it with a hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun (boiling water will work but it takes much longer). Then put it in a vice and tap on the piece of scrap metal until the adapter starts sliding , then you can tap it right off. I pull them in another manner (with a puller on the screw, but I have a puller). You can hammer it off just fine. Just don't twist.

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

Appreciate it guys!  I think I am gonna take it to the guy who normally does it.  Decided to add a butt extension and new grip as well. I may eventually set myself up a bench in the garage for this type of stuff,  I enjoy tinkering with it. Only paid $35 for the shaft,  that's a steal for a Black Ops!!
