Wow, 2 FM's and 2 hybrids in a PGA Tour players bag.  And a good player at that.  Not something you see very often.

No problem!!

I'm playing the A4OS hybrids from a couple years ago and love them, but I haven't paid much attention to Adams golf clubs since that purchase. With Ernie signing with Adams, it actually got me interested in their clubs again!

Whoever said it is right - this is an LPGA set up - If Ernie isn't hitting anything longer than a 5 iron what does that say for us?

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

What ball will he play?

i'm curious too, but haven't had the chance to find out. if i had to guess, i would say he is probably playing one of the new Taylormade Tour Preferred or Tour Preferred X golf balls?

I like that set up.  The only thing that surprises me is that he's got a second fairway (4 wood?) and nothing in between the 52* and 60* wedge.

If one of us posted that bag some folks would say the 8* was too big of a gap in the wedge department.

It will be interesting to see what happens when he's faced with a longer bunker shot. Open the 52?

What's in the Bag:

Driver: TaylorMade SLDR 10.5 (set to 11.5), Kuro Kage Aftermarket Only Blue 60S, NDMC+4

Fairway: Callaway Big Berth Alpha 815 14 (set to +2,N), Speeder 665 Stiff, NDMC

Hybrid: Adams XTD-ti 20 (set to 19.5), Matrix hQ3 Red Tie Stiff

Irons: Mizuno JPX 825 Pro 4-GW, KBS Tour Stiff, 1* flat, Blue PURE DTX

Wedges: Mizuno MP-T11, 56/13 & 60/5, DG Spinner, Blue PURE DTX

Putter: Bettinardi Studio Stock 15, 34", 5* loft, 2* flat, SuperStroke Slim LITE 3.0

Bag: Mizuno Aerolite SPR stand bag

Ball: Wilson Staff Duo Urethane (summer), Srixon Q-STAR Yellow (winter)

Maybe it's just in the long irons

Ernie Els is the guy who put two X Utility in the bag at Wentworth and asked for a full set because he loved them. And won The Open with XU in the bag. There's absolutely no surprise in his setup.

There's no point in Adams signing a guy who plays blades in 3-PW. Ernie is perfect for them.

Really, I'm not interested in watching Adams go down the path that they seem to be going down. I still want some mb2s

i totally agree, i much prefer the look of these versus the matte/gunmetal colour. heading over to Modern Golf Vancouver in a couple of weeks to do a fitting, so hopefully i'll get a chance to test them there :D

Those irons are pretty ugly looking, not sure how they are at address but they must perform due to Ernie bagging them.

as long as they perform! haha.. i was reading up on these tour versions that ernie is bagging, they're suppose to have less offset and about 10% smaller than the normal XTD irons, but definitely a huge difference from the Razr X Muscleback irons he used over in Callaway.

guess everybody needs a little bit of forgiveness!

  • 1 month later...

I had the chance to hit the retail version of this iron this past weekend.  I was not a fan because of the lack of feel/feedback.  I also thought the top line was too thick.  On the plus side, they were easy to hit, the ball speed seemed pretty hot, and they had KBS C Taper Lite shafts.

The shafts were the best part of the experience.

Love the Adams FW and Hybrids.  I too would like a set of MB2 in case I get good enough to hit them one day.  Until then I could just look at them.

The MB2's are more forgiving than you would expect.

That's easy for you to say Mr 0.1 Handicap.   :D You probably miss the sweet spot only once per round.

Actually this is the first set of blades I have played since college and had the same apprehension that most do when making this switch. They are actually as forgiving or maybe a bit less than the X Forged I had in the bag before them.

And don't let the handicap fool you......I can get that thing up at any given time :)
