I'll be perfectly honest with you. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all these damn golf shoes. The problem is compounded by the fact that all the names sound the same. adipure...adizero, puremotion, adimotion, purezero. Even the ones I think I made up might actually be real products.

If I can't keep it straight, how can I blame you for not knowing what's what?

The point of all this... normally I'd tell you to go ahead and skip over all the adidas nomenclature if you'd like, but I think pure 360 is a shoe you're going want to remember.

It's slightly odd, I suppose, adidas isn't making the same noise over pure 360 as they did over adizero (there's no media kit for this one), but it's a shoe the company is very excited about. As far as mostly traditional offerings go, I'd say it's THE shoe they're most excited about. And while it sounds like the sort of thing that a shoe company would say each and every year, adidas guys are telling me that pure 360 is the most comfortable golf shoe they've ever made.

Below you'll read about things like leather that's thin and soft. They'll mention the "classic silhouettes" too, but the part you should really need to pay attention to is the bits about the ultra-flexibile outsole. From a technological standpoint it's made from polyurethane that's poured and injected. Less technically speaking; it's really bendy.

What you can't see in the press release is how flexible...almost pliable the new material is. It's reasonably safe to say it's unlike most anything you've ever seen in a golf shoe.

No samples yet (and that's fine...still a metric crapton of snow on the ground), but this is definitely one of the shoes I'm most interested in checking out this year. Comfort is all but assured. The durability of the new material...we shall see.

The Sports Science Segment

As they did for the climawarm+ jacket, adidas partnered with ESPN to produce a Sports Science segment about the new shoes. Trying to quantify comfort is difficult, and I'm not sure I fully buy into the idea that dropping an egg on an outsole translates to comfort, but it's still a decent-enough segment.

As an aside before we get to the video, TaylorMade and adidas are literally creating news (that's what a press release basically is, right?) on a daily basis. Maybe it's oversaturation, but if we assume not everybody sees everything, it's easy to appreciate the aggressiveness of what they're doing right now.

Last year I felt like the company backed off a bit (perhaps not knowing what to do about the long winter, or the resurgent Callaway). This year (at least so far) it appears they're back on their game a bit. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain, and what impact another long winter has on their plans

Anyway...enjoy the video:

Full Press Release starts....wait for it...NOW

adidas Golf Launches pure 360 Footwear Collection

Company’s Most Premium Footwear Delivers Premier Comfort and Stability

Carlsbad, Calif. (March 3, 2014) – adidas Golf, an industry leader in innovation, technology and performance footwear, has announced the release of the pure 360 footwear collection, the next generation of adipure™ footwear. The collection features clean, classic silhouettes, ultra-flexible outsoles and premium materials aimed at allowing the foot and body to move in the way it was naturally meant to from the ground up.

To achieve the perfect combination of comfort and stability in the pure 360, adidas Golf footwear designers utilized our thinnest and softest leather combined with innovative construction technologies, highlighted by poured polyurethane (PU) injected directly into a revolutionary new puremotion® outsole to provide ultimate cushioning and unmatched comfort.

Dustin Johnson, adidas Golf Tour staff professional since 2007, first played the new pure 360 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in January, where he praised the footwear’s aesthetic appearance and performance attributes.

“Walking as much as we do out on tour definitely takes its toll,” said Dustin Johnson, eight-time winner on the PGA TOUR. “Once I started wearing the pure 360, I immediately felt the incredible comfort and feel more refreshed at the end of my round. Not only do they look great, they’re the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn.”

For unrivaled stability, designers gathered critical tour player feedback and incorporated a newly designed external heel cage paired with a new tour performance last for 360WRAP support in the midfoot and heel. The outsole of the pure 360 features proprietary puremotion™ technology that allows the golfer’s foot to move more naturally during play. The totally redesigned thintech® outsole features swing plane traction and a new midfoot cleat to create even more grip and stability.

“Our tour athletes know what they need in their footwear to perform at their highest level,” said Masun Denison, Director, Global Product marketing, Footwear at adidas Golf. “We’ve listened carefully to their feedback and combined it with new material technologies to create a premium shoe that we’re confident will resonate with both tour players and amateurs alike.”

Available now, pure 360 is available in four colorways: Black / Running White / Samba Blue, Running White / Silver Metallic / Slime, Tan Brown / White / Dark Solar Blue and Running White / Running White / Metallic Silver at an MSRP of $250 USD.

They look interesting that's for sure.

.  Shoes seem to be on trend of "barely there" in golf .  They are getting closer to the ground and getting more and more flexible. I'd be curious to know what is actually best for stability and power .   For me it seems you might loose some "base" at a certain point.   Slightly sturdier shoes might provide more leverage sort of like a starting block.

Anyway i'll be curious to hear your thoughts once you get a chance to try them out.

They look interesting that's for sure. I have two concerns after holding, not wearing, a pair in person.

  1. If they are are a one-peice poured TPU they cant be very breathable i wouldn't think.  Id be worried about them being too hot in the summer.  I don't want to stop every six holes and dump the sweat out of my shoes.
  2. The other would be more of a question.

The outsole is injected (as it usually is). Upper is leather, and I would assume that means it breathes like any other golf shoe.

Regarding "barely there". I'm not sure if that's really the trend anymore. When True Linkswear first came out, I think there was a reaction...maybe even an over reaction by some of the industry giants. Most everyone has settled on lighter, and perhaps a bit lower to the ground, but not minimalist. In a nutshell, we're talking about weight reduction without the loss of stability.

I believe it was Champs (definitely one of the spike companies) who make a claim that traditional spikes produce up to 5 more yards compared to spikeless designs.

I did the True Linkswear thing for a while, and still wear them on occasion, but I've found that after a few weeks of the near barefoot thing, it feels pretty good to get back on a stable platform again.
