Hello From PA!

I just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself to the forum! I'm a newly avid golfer over the last season and a half or so, and love spending every minute of our short summers on the course!

 

I live in a small town in central PA, about an hour away from State College and two hours or so from Pittsburgh. It's a great area, but the winters are miserable for a golf nut!

 

I look forward to being involved in the community here, and hope to be able to bring some valuable input!

 

This website, and subsequently the forum, has shed a bunch of light on the golf industry and the sport in general!

Thank you to both of you! Fozcycle, I can promise I'll be nothing but shy! Seeing the community here, and just the general perspective makes me very interested to be a part of this! Love the vibe.

 

Also, the fact that this is a lifelong sport is one of the things that has me so drawn to it! Being a young adult it's something that I easily can see doing with my children, family, wife etc.

Welcome.  It's hard for us that live in the north to get our golf fix during the winter.  This site and the lively discussions help.

 

For such a new golfer, you've certainly have found yourself some tasty clubs with some interesting and particular specifications. EX: I didn't even know what bounce was until a few years ago.

 

BTW, I don't think I've ever seen such high bounce numbers on wedges.  I (and probably others) would like to hear the story of how you got your Edel wedges, the details about the grinds, and those bounces.

 

Have you done a WIMB?  That may be a good place, or maybe you could start a thread on you wedges.  And include pics if possible.

Welcome to the forum. How's the central PA weather holding up these days? I used to live right outside of State College so I know how brutally long winter can feel sometimes. Although it's not currently much better here in Ohio.

The weather is iffy... In the morning it feels like I'm back in the middle of January, but towards the afternoon it is okay out. Mid to upper 40s. It's still not close to perfect conditions for golfing, and the courses here are just starting to think about opening.

 

You cannot be any closer to the truth there though. It feels like I've been in winter for a year and a half at this point!

It's a handle I came up with from my xbox live days, haha. Long story. But, it's stuck and something im comfortable with.

 

Plus, I'm not creative enough to come up with something else and I like it. So there's that!

 

And thank you! I've greatly enjoyed my time here so far. I have to say, I've been a member of various forums through my life and this is by far the most toned down (in a good way!) environment I've been in. Absolutely no sense of elitism. Which is great. Especially being new!

 

I'm in DuBois. Not sure if you're familiar. If you're not, I'm sure you've heard of Punxsutawney (damn groundhog). I'm about a 20 minute drive from there.

After this winter I'm ready to form a posse and take out that groundhog.  Since you're close can we water the horses at your ranch?

I actually met the guy who handles that groundhog. I work in Car sales, sell Toyota's locally, and the guy who had to take compare of Phil and take him all over the country came in. So I have a pretty direct route to him.

 

Should be easy pickings. Haha!

 

And hulk, PA can't dry up fast enough! When you say hardcore are you meaning like the type of music? Haha.

I skipped the band thing. Although I had a ton of friends who played in them and I was very supportive! Loved going to shows when I was younger. It's surprising the quality of the music that local guys could make!

Welcome. I know a lot of PA'ers and have spent a lot of weekends in PA from my RC car racing days.   I have a 3-day outing to Cross Creek in Titusville in August maybe an hour away from you.

Toyota huh pretty good vehicles I had a 81 Toyota 4WD pickup I bought new in 81 put a little over 395,000 on it drove it from 81 to 99. In fact did one of those Toyota stories from the factory on it was never shown but the good folks from Toyota gave me a beverage cooler that I still have

What the heck? Has it cooled off up there now? It has been hot and humid here all summer it has cooled off here a few degrees or so in the last week. In fact a guy I know whose dad is a preacher told his dad the other day "he was thinking about going to hades to cool off" LOL understandly dad jumped in his butt with both feet.

Absolutely it has cooled off! The last two weeks or so have been in the 60's to MAYBE low 70's. We had a low the one night of 48!

 

It's unreal. Tie that in with the rain and boy... It's fun let me tell ya! Haha.

As a meterologist I know what that felt like. Mississippi had an absolutely god awful winter for golfing. If it wasn't 40-50, we were getting 1" to 3" of rain. Basically it would get just warm enough to play, rain and be cold for 4-5 days and then have 1-2 days of playable conditions. Got to the point that I gave up playing for almost a month because the course wasn't in any condition, or was packed with a ton of people.

and that's why I stay in FLA. where I can golf year 'round.  I run a weekly game that averages about 40 players. Last year we only had two rainout days....
