Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic Preview & Pairings

There has been so much excitement on the LPGA so far this year, that it is hard to believe that the season is only 1/4 over. Hall of Famer Karrie Webb has already won twice this year. That has been matched by Anna Nordqvist's 2 victories. Fan favorites Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie have each brought home a trophy, and future superstars Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda have also been in the winner's circle.
Fan interest is growing, television ratings have never been higher, and they still have 75% of the schedule to play (and that includes four more majors).

The LPGA moves back to the state of California this week for the inaugural playing of the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic.

This will be tournament # 9 of 32 on the schedule this year.

Here are the key details:

Great tournament, loved having that final round on during prime time.  I so appreciate watching players who hit it closer to the same distance that I do working their way around the course and post those scores.  Lot's to learn, lots to enjoy.  What a shot by Lydia on 18 and for that matter the chip on 17, perfect touch.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Gotta say, this was one of the most enjoyable professional sporting events I have ever attended. It was relaxed, casual, not over-crowded- in short, it was everything the US Open at Olympic wasn't. And the seemingly effortless grace that was on display in the competitors' golf swings had me watching in awe. Honestly, it was truly a joy to watch in person. And Ms. Ko appears to be unflappable. All of them were focused, to be sure, but she is a force. 17 years old? Unbelievable. Another highlight was watching the swing of Ashleigh Simon of the RSA, who may very well have the smoothest swing I've ever seen. What is it about those South Africans and their beautiful golf swings? Anyway, if you love watching great golf and have not been to an LPGA event, do yourself a favor and go.
