Kanoito
Hey guys, My wife has been playing the Adams Super S driver for a while and she has collected her good share of skymarks with it. I don't have the skills nor the tools to repaint the crown, so I was thinking... if I remove the paint completely (using sandpaper for example) and leave the "raw" finish, will it affect the club's properties (aerodynamics, weight, feel, etc.)? I did the same procedure on a black TM putter and the raw feel looks much better than the black paint. Appreciate any input from the experts. Thanks! hckymeyer
There should be no issues. I played an F11 raw for a little while before repainting it and I actually really liked the look. Rather than dealing with sanding though if you use a product like Tal-Strip you can just spray the head and wipe it off with a paper towel and the paint will come with it. Then you can go back over any spots that remain with another spray and use q-tips and toothpicks for any nooks and cranny's you have left. RookieBlue7
Buy spray on Tal Strip II. Spray it on, wait 5-10 minutes and spray it off with a water hose. Paint=gone. No issues playing it raw as it's titanium and won't rust, only patina. Kanoito
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I thought about sanding the finish to give it the brushed matte look. Can't seem to find Tal Strip here in Germany, so I'll try this: http://www.carson-modelsport.com/en/products/accessories/accessoriesgeneral/produktdetails.htm?sArtNr=908113 SpeedZone 9* w/ Aldila Rogue Silver 60 S X2 Hot 3 Deep 14.5* w/ Aldila Tour Green 75 S JetSpeed 5W 19* w/ Matrix Velox T 69 S OR Super LS 3H 19* w/ Kuro Kage Black 80 S JPX919 Forged 4-PW w/ Modus3 105 S Vokey SM7 50/08F, 54/14F & 58/08M w/ Modus3 115 Wedge ER1 34" w/ SuperStroke Fatso 2.0 Pro / H2NO Lite Cart Bag / 3.0 / NX7 Pro LRF My reviews: MLA Putter // Titleist SM7 // PING i500 // PuttOUT
hckymeyer
That looks like it should work. Over here Tal-Strip is available at most autoparts stores. That might be another place for you to check, but not sure what's available for stores over there. mnfats95
This brings up a great question that I have always wondered about but kept forgetting to ask. If you want to paint your clubs, whether it's just the numbers on your irons or even a whole wood, what is the best kind of paint to use? I would love to be able to touch up some of my clubs when the paint starts to get beat up, but I want it to look good too. "I'd play a ladies set of clubs if it allowed me to break par." hckymeyer
Touch ups are a little hard to do. I've never been able to make it look exactly the same as the rest of the club unless you remove everything and start over. Rookie will most likely have the best suggestions, but I've used automotive spray cans on a whole head redo and it worked out pretty well. The key to any paint job though is prep work. Make sure the prep is perfect and then multiple thin coats. For paint filling numbers on irons (or putters, or any lettering) the Tamiya model paints work great and they have a ton of colors. Testors also works pretty good and in a pinch you can always use nail polish as well.
