I've Never Heard of This

Played golf yesterday with a Hack To Jack buddy…and the story of his weekend blew my mind!

 

We were paired together in a tourney on Saturday, and I told him of my recent club ho ways in picking up a set of Srixon irons.  So he started thinking...

 

He was gaming a set of Callaway Razr X irons and hybrids, circa 2012, that he had purchased at, of all places, Costco.  At the time, Costco told him if, at any time, he wasn't happy with the clubs, he could return them for the full purchase price.

 

At any time.

 

Sooo, on Sunday, two years later, he walks into Costco to return the clubs, and walks out with the full purchase price of over $700 in hand.  Cash.  

 

A few weeks earlier he had gone to 2nd Swing to see what they were worth in trade-in, and was offered about $25 for the set (irons and hybrids).  

 

Anyone ever heard of such a thing????

Haha! Wow! What a deal! He must have kept the original box I imagine.  I doubt many people would even consider doing that two years later, so it's probably not a big deal for Costco.  Their customer service people are just trained to make customers happy.  That they did! No skin off their back.  If that became a widespread practice, I bet they would put a stop to it though.

That is cray, they have some great costumer service.  Not many places would do that.

I am a member at costco and yes that is such a thing. No matter when you bought it you can return it, even if it's used.

Costco has pretty much the best return/exchange policy in retail.  It's a great place to shop.

 

Plus they have cases of Stella for $24.  Based on the price of a 12 pack at the liquor store if you buy 4 cases in a year you pay for your membership.  Needless to say I paid for my membership in one visit

This is NUTS! If everyone who purchased the irons did that, I am sure they would change their policy.

That one store set of Razr X's is the only set they sell. They will unload the used clubs to a reseller who will then try to get whatever they can for them.

buddy bought a Covert there,  when the 2.0 Covert came out he returned his year old Covert, no questions asked.

Definitely seems like something that could be taken advantage of. They don't have the best selection, but for anyone who wants to try out golf without fear of losing out if they don't like it, that's awesome.

My mom is a manager for costco in the UK and yes they will literally take anything back. I only buy my electronics from there because of it! I have heard stories of people "buying" 90" TVs just before the SuperBowl and returning them the day after. The amount of returns they get puts about a 0.001% dent in their profits. Keep the customers happy and they will spend the $$$.

Costco has had 14 people talking about them and 75 reading about them in 4 hours, all for the price of a set of irons.  I dare say a number of those people are seriously considering a Costco membership for the first time in their lives.  You can't get this advertisement in a 30 second commercial and how much do those cost?

 

Make that their cost on a set of irons, and they may recoup part of that yet.

Play them until you get better and can get fitted to your developing swing.

COSTCO may be the place to grow the game for new players.

Buy a set, play for a year, return them if you don't get hooked on golf.

That is insane. Awesome. I set foot into a costco for the first time ever the other day with a friend. Signed up for a membership too. If this is the norm for how they treat people I may be a customer for life.

Heck, you're basically borrowing the clubs and leaving a $500 security deposit.  

 

One element of the Hack To Jack program was a used club donation program to help provide newbies with clubs at no cost, so they can get started.  Dozens of sets were donated- some cheap, less-that-garage-sale quality, but there were some surprisingly good clubs, as well.  Got my son a nice set of Dynacraft irons, a set of Maltby forged wedges and a Cleveland Launcher 5 wood (with Diamana shaft) for zippo.  Hope to get him on the course for 9 on Sunday...

Was that for one or two years?  Besides, WTH are you drinking Stella for?  You can actually get far better local brews!

Pays for a one year membership, you save about $12-$13 each case.

 

As for why Stella, it tastes good and I can drink it all day.  Plus my course serves Stella in bottles so it's easy to fill the cooler at home from time to time and nobody notices

My parents have shopped there for years. They swear by it. But they also watch Bill O'Reilly and nothing else. Story for a different thread.
