Winter Park CC

I'm off this week and have been watching. Morning Drive. They've been doing remotes from. Winter Park CC, a quirky little 9 hole layout that is celebrating it's 100th anniversary.

This course is everything that's right about the game IMO. While doing my internship some 25 years ago I played it a number of times with some of the senior members of that church. They had fun and so did I and we were done in under 2 hours.

We need way more places to play that are like this one!

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Yep!  Sounds like my practice course only a LOT nicer.  We've talked about it before; to get new people out to the game, it has to be shorter than a 4-5 hour round.  9 hole courses can be built that are a lot of fun and still challenging to the better player.  They take up less space; cheaper to operate; AND can be priced to make it attractive to play.  The key phrase here is CAN BE... don't get greedy on the green fees!

Is Winter Park CC is private?

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Too cool!  I played that course a hundred times when I lived in Orlando.  The short game practice area is behind the course off a side street.....rarely anyone on it.  Anyway... the guy that lives by the walkway to the practice area is an ass.  Hates people parking in front of his house and gives you the evil-eye.  Heaven forbid you cut the corner and touch a blade of his grass...you're in for an earful!!!

It's not private Kenny! It's very affordable. I do remember cutting that corner.

We had a great little nine hole course in Old Saybrook CT. It was built in the 1890's and the course had right of way over all adjacent properties. One of them was Katherine Hepbern's although it was well out of play. Another one was a 450 yard par 4 from the back. You could try and play over the garage of a mansion on the corner. It was way too cool and way, way too much fun. I loved that course. It was called Fenwick.
