Coolest event of the year? The Alfred Dunhill Links?

I've been thinking about it and I can't think of any event that can quite match this event for overall coolness.

 

Played across Carnoustie, KingsBarns and the Old Course - three amazing tracks.

 

Played as a pro am, so every pro has an amateur with them.

 

Free entry to the courses for the first 3 days for the public.

 

some really good players on show including a few from the US; crikey Faldo has even found a set of clubs and is playing!

 

Never going to get to boring when you've got sportsmen, actors, comedians and actors mixing it up on 3 tough courses. Now do you follow Huey Lewis, Bill Murray or an actual golfer.

 

Oh and of course it's now cold and windy in Scotland - after the unusual warmth of the ryder cup. So Carnoustie might be up to its old tricks.

 

More events like this please, got to be good for the game surely?

I agree. Amazing tournament for spectators. I was there last year. Stayed at Fairmont with many players, and lots of celebrities. Charlton. Henman. Gullit. Clarke. Donaldson. Probably my best golf-week ever, even though I only played one round

 

How many places can you do this? Where do find so many top quality courses close together?

 

Weather during 2013 tournament was fantastic.
