Any bowlers out there?

Being we have a roughly 5 month off season in MN we need something to do in the winter.  Last year our group of golf guys started bowling as a way to get together since we can't golf.  I didn't get to play last year due to having an infant in the house, but it should work out for me to play this year.

I need some advice on buying a ball though, I've always used house balls and shoes before, but I'm going to invest in my own since I'll be playing once a week.  I just have no idea where to start, I had no idea there were so many different types of balls.

Any knowledgeable bowlers out there that could give me some advice on where to start?  Or the best place to buy equipment?

I am a bowler; little known fact, I was the 2009 city singles and total pins champ.  I get all my equipment from the alley or http://www.bowlingball.com/.  What is your style.......big hook, little hook, straight, down and in?

Much like golf before this year I don't know how to throw a hook :)

I usually play a straight ball and I have no idea what the lane conditions are where we would play.

If you are a straight bowler, i'd just go with something that looks cool. You really don't have to get into coverstocks and cores for a straight ball. If you are looking for something a little higher performing for a straight bowler, find a Storm Natural. I use the Natural for 10 pins and on really dry lanes.
