fozcycle
Just in from Golfweek: By James Achenbach November 13, 2014 6:32 p.m. Follow Me: Twitter @GolfweekJim Follow Me: Twitter @GolfweekToyBox CARLSBAD, Calif. – Over the years, Burner became one of those iconic, easy-to-remember golf club names. Now it's back. In addition to the new R15 family, TaylorMade has announced the planned Jan. 9 arrival of the AeroBurner family that will include drivers, fairway woods and hybrids. And like previous clubs that carried the Burner name, these newest clubs focus on speed and distance. “We wanted to make it as fast as we possibly could,†said Brian Bazzel, senior director of product creation for metalwoods. “It still had to be playable (not too long, not too light), but we wanted it to look like it's moving even when it's standing still.†Neat trick there. To emphasize speed, TaylorMade designed the AeroBurner driver without an adjustable hosel sleeve, which would add weight. Total weight of the AeroBurner is less than 300 grams. “We could have put it in,†Bazzel said of an adjustable hosel, “but the driver wouldn't have been as fast. We always told ourselves to remember that speed was the No. 1 goal here.†The matte white driver with a black face does have what is called an Aero hosel, which is a small fin at the heel of the club. This is intended to aid aerodynamics and stability. So the AeroBurner is faster than the R15? In two words, slightly so. The R15 is designed to offer the ultimate in adjustability and shotmaking, while AeroBurner is a speed merchant, pure and simple. “AeroBurner will spin a little more than R15,†Bazzel said, “which is a good thing for most amateur golfers. Still, in our testing, the AeroBurner is the fastest (driver) we've ever seen.†The AeroBurner also features what TaylorMade says is a larger and improved Speed Pocket, which originally appeared in the company's RocketBallz family. The Speed Pocket allows the face to flex more at impact, which TaylorMade says helps maintain ball speed on offcenter strikes. Also helping with mis-hits is TaylorMade's inverted cone technology that has been incorporated in each of the company's drivers since 2002. Lofts for the AeroBurner driver are 9.5, 10.5, 12 and HL (High Loft). AeroBurner fairway woods and hybrids round out the family. Length of the AeroBurner driver is 45.75 inches. It will cost $299 with a Matrix Speed RUL-Z 60 shaft. Upgraded shafts for an AeroBurner TP version are available for an additional $70. The AeroBurner fairway woods (3-wood, 3-HL, 5, 5-HL and 7) will cost $229, with a TP version available for $299. AeroBurner Rescue hybrids will cost $199 or $269 for the TP version. “Overall what we wanted was to provide a choice of great clubs for all golfers,†Bazzel said. “With these two distinct families (R15 and AeroBurner), I think we've done it.†Driver: 0311 XF 10.5* w/Project X Cypher 40 gram Senior shaft or 0811 XF 12* w/Evenflo Riptide CB Senior shaft Fairways: 0211 5W & 7W w/ Evenflo Riptide CB regular shaft and Tour Edge E521 9W w/Fubuki HD50 regular shaft Hybrid: None in bag at the moment Irons: Titleist T300 5-PW w/Fubuki MV Senior graphite shafts w/Golf Pride Tour Wedges: Edison forged 49*, 53* and 57* wedges with KB PGI Senior shafts(80 grm). revkev
Maybe the guy with the hammer had it right? Perhaps someone will develope a driver with a speed slot that is so big that there will be no head. The driver may be called the think method, the person swings, hits his ball (ostensibly because via complex optical maneuvering the ball will disappear). Then the ball is tranfered via warp drive to a spot 287 yards in the center of the fairway. How much do you think they'll be able to sell that one for?
