FlingGolf - This is kinda unique...

If you're a traditionalist, you're gonna hate this.  But I'm thinking about my lacrosse-playing kid and getting him out on a golf course....

There's another video here...

And here's a link to their website.

From the looks of it, it's a mixture of golf and lacrosse.  It ain't real golf, that's for sure - but I'm guessing it isn't meant to be.  But it's a good bit closer to "real" golf than FootGolf.

Not sure how this will play out, but it seems like a pretty interesting idea to get kids out on the golf course.  It also looks like a FlingGolfer can play right along with real golfers, and he doesn't have to carry anything other than balls and the one stick.

Don't think I'd ever play it, but I don't think we're the target audience. My two cents is if the game is going to grow there needs to be some outside-the-box ideas.  As the old saying goes, if you keep doing what you been doing you're gonna keep getting what you been getting...so this is nothing if not different.

Will report back with an 18-year-old's response when he gets home from school  ;)

What say ye?

Yeah - we're definitely not the demographic.  But as far as growing the game ideas, this one looks to have some potential.

My man Kevin from TwinCitiesGolf.com interviewed the owner/creator of FlingGolf earlier today for a podcast.  Give it a listen - there are some interesting ideas for growing the game....

As a father of a teenager, I think this will get more kids and young guns out. Athletic 20's-30's (especially former lacrosse players) I think will also give it a try.

Courses should embrace it because it doesn't tear up the course with big holes or soccer cleats like footgolf. Footgolf has been VERY successful for par 3 and executive courses here in Minnesota.

I showed the FlingGolf video to my 16 y.o. son and he said his friends (who don't golf) would love to do that.

Best part: I could still play real golf while they are in the same group Flinging away. Win-Win.

I'm 42 but think I'm still 17 so I'll give it a try. May throw out my back trying to get 300+ yards but will have fun trying!

I'll setup a FlingGolf event in the Spring - will be interesting to see what type of response we get.

I also asked my golf hating, lacrosse playing millenial son about this.   He said that he didn't think any non-lacrosse players would be able to control the flinger very well, but he did like the fact that you only needed one stick and no other equipment.

Foot golf was a big success at the one local course here that tried it.  It'll be back next year.   Literally the only time I've seen young people in numbers on that course.  Maybe we'll see some flingers too.

  • SPY VIP

This looks fun, but maybe doesn't have the universal appeal of soccer and as such the draw is less than foot golf.

I would play this, but probably be pissed that I don't have my clubs after a few holes. I'd definitely miss my putter :(
