Your Guilty Pleasure / Effective Practice Music on the Range

So I was hitting balls on the range today (woohoo) and as the iPhone shuffled through the 6K songs in it there were a couple of guilty pleasure gems that popped into my ears.

I started thinking that I should make playlists for practice as some songs seem to help, and a whole bunch of others get skipped.

  • Do you listen to music as you practice?
  • Playlists or random shuffle?
  • What are your goto songs and guilty pleasure songs that you are grateful that the others on the range can't hear.

In the spirit of sharing, here are my two nobody can hear songs from today:

BeBe by Divine Brown (damn kids and their Just Dance on the Wii)

Played this 3-4 times. So perfect for swing rhythm

When I Grow Up by Pussycat Dolls

Putting green madness.

They call me sexy.

What's up sexy?

I don't really practice, but I do play music through the cart when I play. It's usually either Sublime radio or Nirvana radio on Spotify

I don't listen to music while on the range but I do when on the putting green. I found it helps me focus that little extra bit before I tee off. I plan to get some Bluetooth headphones so I can listen on the range and course as well.

I want to have a "killer" mentality on the course, so I listen to hardcore metal and gangsta rap.

I usually start with this as soon as I get in the vehicle to head to the course. (Explicit language)

Then I progress to this

http://youtu.be/TafG0BNGWK8

Which leads to this. (Explicit language)

Then back to rap (explicit language)

And ends with this as I'm pulling into the course parking lot.

Depends on my mood but I usually have GnR, Metallica, AC/DC and Garth Brooks on shuffle when I am at the range.

I like how you chose songs to fit the mentality that you want to have when you get to the tee. I have been working on a master playlist i can listen to from car to the tee that gets me hype the same way.

I don't listen to music when I play, I've got hearing aids in both ears and can't wear earbuds.  That said, if I play with anyone who's got music in their cart, I'll let Silver & Black choose the playlist! ;)

  • 2 months later...

Felt like this needed to be bumped after all the music talk.

I love to listen to this song when on the putting green right before I tee off. Just gets my mind in the right place.

I can't practice on the range with earbuds in, so I only listen to music if I'm alone on the range. But when I do, I listen to anything with good guitar work. So this guy comes round on the playlist a lot:

Also listen to a lot of 80s and 90s hair metal, so of course this group happens:

And yeah, when this comes on, my wedge turns into a Les Paul and I wail on it

I'll listen to almost anything on my way to the course, from Stevie Ray to the Mavericks to the Specials and almost anything in between.  The last song I want to hear as I'm driving in is a little swing-ier, a little more syncopated, its Bobby Darrin's version of Mack the Knife.  For some reason, the timing of his vocals reinforces for me the idea of holding the wrist angle until the last possible instant, the ever-elusive "late hit."
