Not really a scotch guy, but for me it's walking out to the garage, popping a Stella and hoping in my cart and driving up to the clubhouse

I'd be happy to give the cigar a miss, but the way I'd improve on your scenario is to be waiting to play at Ross' boyhood home, Royal Dornoch.  My whisky of choice is Caol Ila, a slightly peaty malt from Islay, but in Dornoch I'd probably choose one of the fine offerings from Glenmorangie, made just down the road in Tain.  And I'd have it with a wee splash of water.

Same here. Glenmorangie with a slight splash of water. Had one last night.

It was Laphroaig neat.  I have a bit of my Christmas scotch - Macallan's 18 year old, left but I'm saving that for when Johnny comes marching home. (My Navy son who has been out to seal, mostly under the sea, keeping us safe since last July).  I also have almost a full bottle of Glenmorangie Original - that's my favorite every day scotch.  Of course any number of parishioners know that I like scotch so I received several very nice offerings.

Actually the cigar turned into a bit of a bummer - I had gotten this sampler package entitled White Christmas and have a few cigars left.  There were three of five different cigars in the package.  The Rocky Patels did not burn well at all.  I brought two of them along with two other cigars (1 a nine my normal compliment) to the Ross course.  Neither Dennis nor myself could get the Patel to stay lit and it wasn't an especially windy day.  The same thing happened with this one.  Don't know why.

We have three Ross courses in the Northern part of our county.  One is extremely private and I've never played it.  The other two are public.  I need to get back to the one - it's under new ownership and I know that they've done lots of work on it.  When I played it before the former owner had watered it so much that they neutered it to the point that you could even get an iron to stop on the false fronts of the greens.  But the one that I played last week is not like that - it had rained the night before but you still had Ross with the weird hops around the greens and extremely fascinating routing and hole shapes meant to test your entire game.  Just a great little track - never going to show up on any sort of list but better than many courses that regularly do.

I played Pine Needles and Mid-Pines a few times this past September. Totally awesome. I'll be back there sooner rather than later.

Personally don't know about the scotch and cigar but would have to maybe break out a beer on that one. Being a Carolina boy growing up I am a big Donald Ross fan. we had 2 in the area where I grew up at. Carolina Country Club in Charlotte NC and Mooresville municipal in Mooresville NC and of course all those great Ross courses in the Pinehurst NC area which was only 75 miles away. From what I have been told Carolina in Charlotte has been totally reworked and is not anywhere near the original Ross design now. The Mooresville course was origionally only 9 holes and it is a Ross design and they built a new back 9 a few years ago that is totally different but it is a good combo I played there last April and in July
