Good topic!  For myself, I went to a tournament in Vegas last winter, by the last round, my last 9 holes were a write off, I was so exhausted! Even though I play volleyball and on 2 hockey teams in the winter.  And golf, and 2 ball teams in the summer.  Still I slowly was gaining weight and losing energy.  So just playing sports never kept me in shape like it used to (I'm 40).  So I set a goal that I would train myself to do that same tournament, but be able to walk the entire time and have the energy to finish.

So I bought a push cart and walked 90% of my 70ish rounds last summer.  Just by doing that I went from 240lbs to 215lbs.  Almost back to my ideal weight.  And I have energy to spare.  So this past summer, I actually walked 2- 18 hole rounds in the same day.  Was a little tired, but I finished strong.  Something that was impossible only a year ago.

Now this winter, I'm trying to improve my diet (sucks), and do flexibility training.  I haven't golfed in awhile, but wow does the flexibilty training ever help for hockey as well.  I move like I did 10 years ago.  Should've done this a long time ago, but I was under the impression that I'd never get old... lol.

Great work Shifty! Sounds like you're definitely moving in the right direction! I've just recently started doing a mixture of Pilates and Yoga (and swimming in my off days) to try and strengthen and lengthen my muscles (particularly my core). I was having some back problems last year which was the impetus for my renewed enthusiasm. So far so good, but a long way to go yet!
