A Sunday shootout looms at the Humana Challenge. Here's what You Oughta Know heading into the final round in the California desert, where Erik Compton shares the lead with three other players as he eyes a breakthrough victory:

Compton holds a share of the 54-hole lead for the first time in his 113th start on the PGA Tour. Twice a heart transplant recipient, he is in search of win No. 1 after finishing runner-up last summer at the U.S. Open.

While Compton has made plenty of birdies, his key this week has been avoiding bogeys. He has dropped only one shot through 54 holes, the fewest of anyone in the field.

Bill Haas holds a share of the lead, and he is no stranger to the leaderboard in Palm Springs. Haas recorded his maiden victory here in 2010, then followed that with a playoff loss in 2011 and also finished T-6 last year.

An impressive rookie season continues for Justin Thomas, who holds a share of the lead for the second straight week. The 21-year-old already has a pair of top-10 finishes this season, including a T-6 result at last week's Sony Open where he was a co-leader after 36 holes, and now he eyes his first win.

Michael Putnam rounds out the four players sharing the 54-hole lead. Putnam was the leading money-winner on the Web.com Tour in 2013, and he too is seeking his first win on the main circuit. His best career finish is T-4 (2005 Buick Championship, 2014 RBC Canadian Open).

Matt Kuchar held the lead for most of the third round, but he trails by one after closing with back-to-back bogeys. Kuchar was a runner-up in 2010 and appears poised for a sixth straight top-25 finish at this event.

Ryan Palmer is also one shot off the pace entering the final round. Palmer, who shot a 61 in the second round, closed with a 63 on the Palmer Private course last year to finish alone in second place.

Defending champion Patrick Reed is still in the mix after a third-round 67. Reed, who won earlier this month in Hawaii, will begin three shots off the pace in a tie for ninth.

Fingers crossed for Compton. Half Norwegian, I think he has two passports. May represent Norway in Rio 16.

I am hoping for him as well. Such a great story.

And the winner is Haas. He didn't seem to be very impressed by his own victory.

Not at all, I was kinda hoping for a 6-man playoff.
