jmwils81
Question for you Guru's With the new Golf Pride Grip coming out the MCC+4 what is the benefit to having the extra width on the lower hand? I have read articles in the past about players such as bubba adding 4-5 layers of tape to the bottom hand but never really thought about the benefit. **May the fade be with you** Driver - SLDR 9.5 Paderson KINETIXx IMRT Green Stiff / 255 cpmFairway Wood - 910F 3 woodHybrids - Big Bertha Diablo 21degIrons - 710 AP2 4-PW Standard Lie/FlexWedges - XFT 50, 54, 60Putter - California MontereyBall - FG Tour
ACcustomX
I would think if you like to choke down on the club for certain shots. keeps the grip size more consistent throughout. Kenny B
I think it is a matter of how it feels. I have always added wraps under my right hand to lessen the taper. I remember reading something 20 years ago when I started playing golf that adding wraps under the bottom hand helped with a slice (might have been from Golfworks because I bought all my supplies there). Don't know if that is true, but at the time I needed all the help I could get! So, I am still doing it because it feels right now. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
silver & black
The way I understand it.... it's supposed to make you feel like you don't have to have a death grip on the club. It's to promote a looser grip without feeling like you are going to lose the club.
Kenny B
I suspect some of the feel has to do with how long your fingers are. My hands aren't that big, but my fingers are pretty long. If the grip gets too big for the fingers, you will lose some wrist hinge and therefore distance. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
SPY VIP Tony Covey MGS Posted January 29, 2015 SPY VIP Share Posted January 29, 2015 The way I understand it.... it's supposed to make you feel like you don't have to have a death grip on the club. It's to promote a looser grip without feeling like you are going to lose the club. Basically this. Less taper, relieves the death grip. Some evidence to suggest there's a swing speed increase as well. It's actually one of the few products I was genuinely interested in coming out of the show. RookieBlue7
I'm glad to see this as I've always built up the lower hand in every grip except the Lamkin Performane Plus 3gen(had thicker lower section). It took 1 extra wrap as opposed to the 3 I normally use with most other grips In The BagDriver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400 SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold SpinnerLW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold SpinnerXW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger steppedPutter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. mr_divots
Some people that want less release of the lower hand through impact will build up the lower hand. These new GP's look OK. They've gotten really "busy" with all the textures and patterns on their grips recently. Keep in mind, these are heavier with more rubber in the lower hand than the NDMC's by about 4g as I recall seeing.
