Stunning Putters: What are your top-3?

This one was difficult for me - there are so many out there! There are no rules for top-3, it is your opinion! Post up pictures as well - heck I might change some of mine based on what you put up!

In no particular order:

Here are my top 3. I picked these 3 for now but there are so many good ones out there, even if I don't game that particular style.

1. TP Mills 8802

2. Mann Krafted 6266 (an 8802 style blade)

3. James Ingles 28 Gauge (another 8802 style blade, but with a unique take)

The TP Mills is classic and it would be a nice collection piece. The Mann Krafted is another great take on the 8802 and there are many options to go with as far as finish, materials, etc. Finally, the James Ingles 28 Gauge is probably one of the coolest putters I've ever seen. I'm not sure if the company is making them anymore because they are with Scratch Golf, but I love the gunsmithing/fine shotgun take on it and I think it's genius. I would buy multiple custom models of them if I was rich.

Although I can appreciate all the work, design, and craftsmanship that goes into custom "pimped" putters it just doesn't do anything for me. Look, I'm not poo-poo'ng Golfspy Brad's post. Not at all. I always enjoy looking at these types of putters. I also ask myself, “Who buys these things?” I have never in all my years of playing this great game run across a guy using one. Maybe with our new weekly poll we'll see that question asked. But in the meantime…. Here's one that's a winner and is stunning. (My buddies don't agree) It's my $39.95 OTR Odyssey 340g Wht. Ice #9. It's a real beauty. Right? Okay, I'm being funny?

It will always be difficult once you include customs and really limited (less than 20?50?). The only limits there are money and imagination.

My choices would all be retail or at least more than 1,000 made, meaning it would be generally available.

Designed by CaptMorgan (in almost any finish)

Fun thread though.

Mybluc that Sizemore Damascus almost made my original list. I have a big soft spot for Sizemore putters. I want to try and find one of the Superstroke Fatso Slim prototypes that Bruce Sizemore made. I know a few of the guys here have/had the Fatso mallet, but the Slim looked epic!

The #6 works for me ;)

I'll never be able to afford a putter I can't play, but one I'd really like to have that might actually turn up in my bag is this one:

dude! that Betti copper mallet is perfect! does it get any course time? I hope you have your garage well insured lol

That Betti has rolled balls, but it mainly just hangs and patinas. Solid copper on that one. The Byron is just copper plated. That one has a whole lot of rounds under its belt. Old go to gamer.

I'd have included my Mannkrafted, but that'd be me being partial... Lajosi's Melting Lizard design is an awesome display of craftsmanship too

I can't stand glare coming back at me off my putter. Too often, "boutique" putters are super shiny with their finishes, and can almost be blinding out on the course on a sunny day. Those Machine putters are really nice but are an example of this. I'd want some sort of bead blasting done at least to the topline/bumpers/flange.

Brad,

Is this the one you are referring to?

Not that one - though I love that shape as well. These are the only photos I could find of the slim and the quality is not the best. The fatso is in black and the Slim is the copper colored mallet.

I'd love to get a Fatso at some point, but that Slim just looks perfect to me.

Had both, only issue I had with the SS putters is that the lie angle is pretty much set on those mallets. The one I got was supposed to be 71* and came in at 75*. Was sent a long putter head instead of what was supposed to be a standard length head

I've been lurking on this thread for a bit now in shock. I have been so brain washed with the big name putters that I have no idea about these gems. This forum is truly amazing in the fact that not only has it proved I need to step my watch game up (Distinguished Gentleman's Thread) now I need to dive in to the rabbit hole that holds amazing putters.

What are the price ranges for some of these? They look like a million bucks I hope they don't cost that too!

**May the fade be with you**

Most basic boutique putters start around $500 for carbon and go up depending on options, metals, etc. last time I priced a basic Damascus with someone it was around a grand. That's a minimalistic one with very little hand working needed. The more you have done and the more exotic the metal as well as the more famous the designer the more expensive you're talking. I'd love/hate to know the price of that Ivory insert by Nead. He's also got another I've seen that's copper with Ivory accents. It's legal Ivory so I'm sure documenting the legality isn't cheap either.

I'd love to get a Fatso at some point, but that Slim just looks perfect to me.

I have two Fatsos in the garage. One center shafted, one heel. Great putters.

Tried to get a slim before Bruce left superstroke. They were definitely limited in number.

Dave,

Any idea where Bruce Sizemore is now and what he is up to? Any new designs we can look forward to? Hope so!

Not sure. Got a message from him before the PGA show that he was going to be around there selling some putters. Sounds like he is still at it, just a bit below the radar. Hope that changes soon!
