Jason Day?  Jordan Spieth?  Patrick Reed?  Lee Westwood?  Always a fun topic....

Since he's fresh off a great win at the Farmer's, I'll take Jason Day.  He's always close, especially at the Masters.  He has to break through soon....

I'm going with Sergio. Never used to like him, but find myself thinking that if he can get the putter thing working then who knows! He's mellowed with age. I know, I'm about as mellow as I can get!

After last year at the majors and the work he's done with Butch, I think Rickie is in the mix too.

I mean, he doesn't have the resume of a Westy or Sergio, but top 5 in all the majors last year and was the most under par across all four if I remember correct. Yeah he's only got one win, but he's built a swing that will probly win a bunch more in the coming years.

Gotta go with Jimmie Walker. Just plain rock solid game. Jordan Speith will get one (or more). Just gonna be a couple years. I think Day eventually gets one, but I think it will be only one. Good, not great player.

Fowler's an interesting choice -- he played great in the majors last year, but it's hard to get past the fact that he's only won 1 time on tour.  Walker has been an early season sensation the past 2 years, but he kinda disappears during the meat of the season.  Patrick Reed is young but has so far only been an early season winner.  What about Snedeker?  6 wins and 50 top 10's outdoes Day...

2nd season after a swing change is usually when it pays off -- be great to see him win any tournament, he's always fun to watch play.

Jason Day. Anyone that hits it higher than the field has an advantage in majors, and they said his iron apex is higher than anyone. And he's got a great all-around game. Surprised he hasn't already.

He's come close a couple times. Has a couple 2nd places doesn't he? And now that he's healthy again, it'll be fun to watch him, Rory, and Rickie battling it out. The next big 3??

Anyone over 40 is out, if you're truly the best player you would have won by now. The only way to answer this question is with someone under 30 because they still have time and potential to hone their major skills. I still think Sergio has a slight chance, but I'll stick to there odds and go Fowler or Day.

Well in terms of resume, it'd be walker, Westwood and Sergio I suppose. Or former world number one, Luke (where's my game gone) Donald.

Fowler has one pga win, so clearly it ain't him. That's not to say he won't win one, or that he isn't talented he just hasn't won as often as others.

I think Day might get over the line at some point.

Thing about majors is that they are frequently (not always) won by experienced and tested winners. From the U.S. Id suggest Walker this year for one, I think the others will go to existing major winners.

3 out of 4 majors this year are on links-style courses.  I think it's a great year for Europeans in the majors.  So, I'm still going with Sergio, but Rickie has a definite chance.

Best resume for someone who hasn't won a major and is still on top of his game is easily Sergio. Day is probably playing slightly better but I'm not sure you can call him the better player. Could easily see either of them winning a major very soon.

I'm going with Rickie.  First time in years last year he's had a different coach, and that coach is one Butch Harmon.  He's going to have a big year this year, IMO.  Second year under Butch, and only was the first in a long time to finish top 5 in all 4 majors in a single year.  That's with 1 year of swing instruction from the best swing instructor out there.

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I think there are two questions permeating this thread and they're decidedly different:

  1. Who is the best player never to have won a major?
  2. Which player, having not won one yet, do you think will win one (this year)?

You may have the same answer for both questions, but mine are different.

  1. Best player never to have won a major: Sergio Garcia
  2. Who do I think will win one this year: Jason Day

I'm going to throw out a name I haven't seen on here. Brandt Snedeker. For sure a dark horse pick but I like his game. He has a couple top 3 finishes and a few more top 5 so he is more than capable.

I immediately thought Sergio but now that I've taken a step back I'm thinking it's very close between Sergio and Luke Donald - but wasn't Westwood world number 1 for a bit as well?  That would throw him in the mix.

I'm taking the opposite approach, someone wrote that if he's over 40 he's not that good - however there are plenty of good players who have never won a major and some not so great ones who won 1 or even 2 - 3 seems to be the place where the men begin to surface and more than 3 is top 25 all time stuff.

At any rate - I'm sensing that guys like Rickie and Day will win one in the next two years - I'm more focused on the older guys who might never crack to winners circle - playing in the Tiger/Phil and now Rory era majors have not been as easy to come by.

It was easier when your top major winners were Seve/Faldo there were more possibilities to pick off and you could get incredibly fortunate and be locking horns with Greg Norman - if it were close - you were a shoe in - Bob Tway, Corey Pavin coming directly to mind.

Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar are two that come to mind for me.  Both multiple wins and great careers.  I think Stenson gets the nod though as my pick for the best player to have not won a major.

Most talent to have never won a major for me is Dustin Johnson.  If he can come back as focused as he is portraying himself to be to the media I can see some great stuff from him in the next few years.
