Aotearoa_Brad
I was feeling a little homesick so I thought I'd post a few photos of a pretty special course in New Zealand. The Hills is a private course, owned by Sir Michael Hill who is a jeweller 'by trade'. The Hills is not Sir Michael's first golf course. The story goes that as an avid golfer and a burgeoning entrepreneur, Michael created his first golf course around his parents house in Whangarei (where I grew up) when he was about 11. He mowed little circles for greens and used baked bean tins as holes. He charged the other kids in the neighborhood to play the course and ran little tournaments with prizes for the winners. It's a pretty special property in a very special part of the country. Arrowtown has a population of only about 2,400 but is one of the most popular spots in the world for photographers in the fall (apparently). It's an old goldmining town and still has many of the buildings standing from that era. What makes this course particularly special (aside from the condition of the course - the home of the New Zealand Open) are the numerous sculptures that Sir Michael has commissioned to adorn the course. Anyway, you only really want to see the photos so here you go: ...and my favorites... The wolves 'exhibit' has over 100 wolves surrounding the swordsman - amazing!
