"Our" PGA Show

I was a little sad that I didn't get to go to the PGA Show in Orlando last month.  But this weekend is our local, albeit a whole lot smaller, version.  The Spokane Golf and Travel Show kicks off on Friday evening with Ladies Night Out.  Female golfers of all ages are invited to a special event with manufacturers, exhibitors, and an exclusive Q&A with the 2014 PGA Teacher of the Year, Kathy G. Jensen.  Hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided...  Of course I'm going!

The show is at the Spokane Convention Center on Sat-Sun, February 21-22, 2015.  Wide World of Golf brings the new equipment and manufacturer reps straight from Orlando (well, not really straight since it's been a month).  Besides the usual OEMs, many of the destination golf resorts in the NW and Canada have booths and deals galore.  The show ticket gets you a free round of golf at two golf courses in the region, plus there are seminars, PGA instruction, contests, prizes, and special deals.

All kids under the age of 12 get in free; junior hitting net and putting course; camps, lessons, and one-on-one instruction provided by coaches from the First Tee of the Inland NW.

Arby's and Novus Glass is sponsoring a "Break the Glass Challenge" (nothing can go wrong here!)   Of course there is a long drive contest and a putting challenge match play event.  In another putting contest, making a qualifying putt of 50 feet will advance you to a putt-off where one lucky person will get a chance to make a 100 foot putt worth $20,000.

If the weather is nice, I might even have to play a round on my way home!

With the weather the way it has been around here and what the forecast says, it's already spring!  Very unusual for this time of year.  About a month ahead of normal spring weather.

Went to the Spokane Golf Show Fri-Sat.  My one comment about the show is that it was waaaay smaller than it was 6 years ago.  Must be the decline in golf participation we have been talking about.  Fairly small venue, but the only club manufacturers that were there were TMaG/Adams, Callaway, Ping, Mizuno, Srixon/Cleveland, and Cobra.  Pretty pathetic!  Did get to see the Srixon Z 545 and 745 irons.  Nice.

NOW, for the show highlight!!!   In my original post shown above I highlighted my comment in red.  The Break the Glass Challenge was a $5 donation to a local kids charity.  That got you 3 balls to break the glass.  Had to use their club.  The setup is shown here and I was standing right where this picture was taken as my wife was hitting (sorry, I didn't think to take the picture when she hit):

When I said my quote above (nothing can go wrong here), the guys in the booth were really proud to show me that that the post was angled so that glancing blows go to the sides.  On her second attempt she hit the glass support post.  As you can see in this next photo marked with the red rectangle, she hit it dead square center!  Made a dent in the wood and you can see the ball dimple pattern in the wood!

The ball came straight back, almost hit her, almost hit me, and the next picture shows what was behind me:

AND yes, it hit the truck!!  Fortunately, it hit the wheel and didn't cause any damage.  The next day the post was padded.

OK, if they aren't smart enough to pad the post like that, there is no way in hades they're replacing all the glass in my house. What could go wrong, huh, kenny? Good stuff! ha!

I skipped the MPLS show. Probably safer that way!
