New Clubs (Finally!)

It was my birthday last week, so on the weekend I treated myself to a new set of clubs. I picked up the Taylormade Speed Blades (4-PW,AW) with steel shafts. I wont get a chance to use them for another couple months, as I live in the frozen wasteland of central Saskatchewan. But am pumped to play with these this up coming golf season! Anyone else here have them?

I got a set at the beginning of last season.  Still in the bag and I don't plan on switching any time soon.  Stock shafts didn't work for me, but I knew that going in and swapped them out right away.

I'm going on my 3rd year of Speedblades with stock 85 gram shafts.   I play 3 - 8 iron, the lower ones having been replaced by Scor wedges.

 

I really like the longer irons and my love affair deepens the longer you go.   The 6 is my most dependable club, the 7 is used any time I have to work a hook or draw.  (I can't work anything else.)   The 3 is really a 17 degree driving iron and is only used off the tee where it will go about 230-250 reliably straight.   I can't get it up off the turf.   I really did not care for the shorter clubs and I replaced the LW, SW and GW's very quickly, eventually also swapping out the PW and the 9 as well.

 

SB's are really good on thin hits and really poor on high face or toey hits.   Make sure you crowd them a bit at address to force your strike location in towards the heel.   When in the rough take particular care NOT to catch them heavy.  A high face hit will only go about 60% of normal, there is no mass in the head up high to help you out.

 

If you factor in the fix for that one weakness, they are great clubs.
