I'm looking to replace the blades, I've got 2 different sets on my mind that I can get for a decent price, TMag Rocketbladez tour,

or Cally x2hot pro, I have hit the Rocketbladez, and have held the RH model of he x2hot pro, and that looks good to my eye as well, has anyone hit both of these, and do you have an opinion one way or another, I am not loyal to one or the other, I friend plays the Rocketbladez and loves them, I just done know what tondo at this point, I have about 2 weeks to make decision, if I wait any longer he wife is going to purchase a dishwasher with my golf money. Which is ironic, because I told her last week I already made her 2 dishwashers. Anyway, my attempt at hot. Anyone have any thought on the irons I would appreciate other views as I make my decision

Thanks

Have you thought about the Nike vrs forges or even the covert forged. Both can be had fairly cheap

My back up set are Rocketbladz with aerotec i80's in them.  They are perfectly good clubs but you need to be aware that the sound like crap once you get into the slotted irons.  Several forum members were involved in a test of those irons when they came out so you can look back under member testing and find their reviews.

I play the Callaway x2hot 4 hybrid and love it.  I'm guessing the irons would be more of the same - very similar to my Wilson C100's.  I'm getting older and needed something that give me more distance and I like forgiveness because I don't have tons of practice time.  The hybrid is easy to hit and launches high, of course it's not as workable as some might like but I'm a point and shoot kind of guy.

If this is a price thing I get the two choices but there are other sets of the same vintage that can be had at a discount as well.  I don't want to muddy the waters too much, here I was thinking something like Mizuno 800/825 pros - I've played both and I believe that Stacy Lewis still games the 825 pros.

So many choices and good deals out there -- both sets you suggest are pretty solid - as are the Nikes and Miizuno's.  I'm with Rev on the Wilson's - C-100's or even the M3's can get had at a decent price.  Also - Cleveland TT's are pretty good as well...lots to look at!!

You're right too many choices, I try to find sets that I can hold in hand, even if it is right handed, I learned to play RH so i can at least see how they feel and look and make a decision off of that. I want to get away from. Blades, but not too far, just something with a bit more forgiveness. I will look at the c100 or M3 and see what they look like

I play Speedblades and I liked the Rocketbladez regulars before them, but I detested the Rocketbladez Tours.   I can't give them any love at all.   I like the X2Hots well enough (around $350), but like Theo, I'd also say take a look at the Nike Covert 2.0's forged which can be had cheap (Under $300 new).   RBZ Tours are VERY cheap (under $200).

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the looks of some of these irons, some not so much, some they don't make in a LH model, so that eliminates those, as I said, I am currently gaming mp68, I've tried to swing some of they're figuring irons, speedades, rocketbladez, cobra fly Z, and others along those lines, to me they look like they put shovel on the end of a shaft, and they don't feel right, I am really looking for something that has a thin top line, with a forged feel, that's why I'm looking at the "tour", and "pro" models on the company lineups. I know it all comes down to how hey feel and look to me, I just want to make sure someone has or hasn't had a bad experience with one or the other, along with suggestions that you may have for something g that I may have missed

I've heard lots of bad things about the Rocektbladz tours.  Lots of good things about the Rocketbladz and as I said I have them.  I don't like the look of my Wilsons at all but I liked the price, liked the options (I don't have the stock shaft and there was no up charge for it or having them customized) and am satisfied with the results.

You will get a better price on the Rocektbladz though so if you don't mind that sound you're going to get great bang for your buck.  I can't believe the 800 and 825 pros weren't available in LH.  That's just wrong.

Just some observations - I did a like transition a few years ago.  And while I was trying stuff out I determined that I was going to have to give in on the "blade-like" top line.

I went from Hogan Apex (2006?) to Titleist AP2's.  And the top line is thicker.  I came to the conclusion that "thin" wasn't attainable  - I had to change my thinking to "not bulky looking".

Along with forgiveness most modern irons are made to help you get the ball up in the air.  If you are gaming blades, you don't necessarily need that.  Pay close attention to trajectory when trying out candidates.  I found myself hitting moon balls with the AP2's.  I am over that because I was also working on a complete swing overhaul but it was frustrating for a period of time.  Had I wanted to just plug and play, I dont know that I would be happy with them.  I also had to change the way I punch out of trouble.  Punches were getting too high in the air.  That was frustrating as well.

I'm not sure of the options listed or posted later on which would offer the least different ball flight from what you game now, but unless you hit it too low now, I would pay a lot of attention to that.

Another consideration is feel.  Coming from a blade you are used to some pretty unambiguous feedback.  With something more fogiving but not super game improvement, terrible shots will still give you unmistakeable feedback.  Slightly off center hits won't.   Its a lot more subtle.  For a long time it felt like I suppose it would "double-bagging" it.  You know you're around the sweet spot but there isn't enough feeedback to know what way you have to move to find it.  That does get better over time.  Again, just something to pay attention to.

I just just went through this very same thing. I first started with Taylormade burner 2.0's but wanted something between blades and game improvement as that's where I feel my game is at. I sold the burner's and bought AP2's. Really like the feel of them but found myself trying to murder the ball to get any distance out of them. They did teach me more about the sweet spot and when you don't hit it (in terms of feel, couldn't feel that with burner's)

I didn't like the enormous amount of distance I had lost (I know coming in that I was going to lose distance but never expected THAT much). So I started shopping again and read up on combo irons. Was looking at the Nike ones when the Cobra S3 pros showed up. They were great! They felt great, my distance was back up even better than the burner's. My problem than became hitting them too far left. I couldn't hit the greens. I kept hitting big draws (too much - more than I was used to)

So now, I'm getting pissed. Why can't I find a good "transition" club. So I started reading up, more research. I remember reading the Wilson/ Staff article a few months back and was really impressed by how the company seemed to be making some serious strides. I immediately got hooked on the look of the FG Tour V2's. I thought they were the most beautiful irons I'd ever seen (still do) So I started reading up on reviews and review after review I still have not found a bad review on them! Not one! Everyone of those reviews. Still can't believe it. So I bought them. They are on their way. I cannot wait to see what the fuss is all about! If you do your research like me, look them up!

Yup the more I learn or try to learn about golf equipment in general, the more I learn that it's not necessarily the most known or common equipment that fits me. If you would have asked me 3 years ago what I would be playing today There is absolutely ZERO chance that what I have in the bag today would have been in my bag then. My Dad was a great golfer and I remember his boss one time gave him a Taylormade Firesole driver with the bubble shaft. He was ecstatic about it and said they were the best so naturally I had become a Tmag fanboy. I'm glad at where I am equipment wise today :)

So what iam finding is that in the Wilson lineup they offer many lefty models in the newer lineup, but the only ones I can find in lefty as to what I am looking for is c100 and D100,

The D100 is out , I have seen those and to me they look like a shovel, I have not seen the c100 so I am not sure on those. Of all the club lineups from the from the previous 2 years, I keep coming back to rocketbladez tour, and x2hot pro, I figure if is forced to look outside of the pro or tour model clubs I will just go ahead and look into the JPX800, or 825. So no need to look into that style outside of mizuno. It's more difficult than I thought it would be to make a decision, I have always kind of just known what I wanted and then went and got them, this time I am just in between where I want to go.

I'm not sure if you want to hear from a guy that is probably at least 3# higher than you in cap....probably more, but, I play Mizuno MP-64's. I've heard/listened to all the negative talk about a guy that at my HC should NEVER play these irons. To that, I say BULLSHIT! I love them! I can hit them just fine. You might want to give them a try. I'm sure I'm not the only advocate of these irons on this forum.

I play mp 68's currently, I am just looking for something with more forgiveness, not sure if the 64's will fit into that category, I love the 68's, and would live to find something in the mizuno lineup, however I am limited on budget so I am looking for 2013-2014 models, and mizuno didn't make the JPX series in a tour or pro model for lefties, so I'm stuck looking elsewhere, I like the suggestion though, but I am trying to get away from blades, not too far away yet, but still getting away from them

Since we have so similar handicaps but perhaps are in dissimilar stages of life, perhaps not, I will give you a quick run down of how I got to where I'm at iron wise. Started playing golf seriously in the late 70's, I was a baseball player before that who would play golf when not playing baseball which was rarely. First real set were Ram blades, what Watson used. Next went to the Eye2 in the mid 80s and stayed there for over a decade. Nicklaus Prgressives were my next irons, the short irons were blades middle irons cavity back, long irons ugly as sin so I got into hybrids. Post Nicklaus was an adventure, I was active here, I won a lovely set of mizunos from this site but got a terrible fit and I went on a trek. The problem was me though not the irons. Found a pro, took lessons and he wanted me in the mp54's and I said unless you are selling them for cost I'm not buying and I need a little more pop out of my irons. He said, I have just the club for you. That's how I got into the c100's. I do like them, they are really built for a player like me, a bit older, trying to recapture lost distance but still with some game. They provide enough feedback on misfits to know what's up but they aren't all that attractive to the eye. I'm weird that doesn't bother me but it's also not for everyone. I doubt you will like them.

I have heard very little good about the Rocketbaldz pros but they may work for you and you can get them for a song. I bag the x2hot 4 hybrid and love it to death, thus far. While I don't know anyone bagging the x2hot pros at least I haven't heard or read the negativity about those. With Wilson the M3 might be the club you are looking for. Last year's, some help, etc. The jump from a 68 to the regular 825's may be too shocking to your system in the Mizunos.

I don't know how much help this rundown has been other than to affirm a move to something with a bit more help and to say I'd stay away from the Rocketbaldz pros. Good luck!

Thanks Rev, it is helpful, I haven't heard anything on the x2hot pros either, good or bad, they have a decent look to them, but if I can't find any to put a couple swings on, I won't do that either, I will have to check for the M3, or the v2, v3, but I suspect I will, have the same issue with those, I can find them on ebay, but won't be able to swing them, I will just have to keep my eyes open at the few stores we have here and maybe I will get lucky and find something..

I do appreciate all the feedback and help.

I'm still bagging the 825 pro. Friggin awesome clubs. Had no idea they weren't available in LH. But I never needed LH clubs...
