Well, it's official... We're becoming parents again... We're going to pick our little guy up on Saturday. Driving to Nashville to get him as that's the half way point between us and where he's at in Indiana. Everyone, meet Hines "Chubb" Walker Evans. My son picked out Chubb for his name (after Nick Chubb)...

They are great pups and can be a handful to care for.  Wife and I probably have "Invested" close to 10G for our male bully.  2 blown ACL's, cherry eye correction and countless trips to the vet.  all worth it.........  :)

Question for those with English Bulldogs.  Any major issues with health problems as we were set to adopt a puppy a few months back and my wife talked me out of it.  I know that they are sweet loving dogs and someday I will have one join our family just concerned about health issues.

I've owned three and all had major health issues.   What can you expect from a breed that cannot be born naturally?   All come into the world via c-section and cost a fortune from birth to grave.

But there is no breed on earth with a better disposition.   Literally.   It's as if they come in knowing, "Okay, I'm gonna need this human's help just to stay on earth, so I'm gonna treat him and all his kin as if they are GODS."   You can't help but love them in spite of the drool, the shedding and the tendency to smell bulldoggier than other breeds, even after frequent baths.

They don't have to have a C-section. But if you opt to go natural you have to be there to help the mom. Lady I work with breeds them as well (hers are too old now to have litters or I'd have gotten one from her). Her dams had 3-5 litters each and not one had a C-section. And they all lived between 9 and 13 years. The determining factor is if your dam has a narrow pelvis or if the pups have small or large heads.

First, Kudos for going with the Adoption route.  There are plenty of animals that need /deserve a good home.

I own, foster, and spend a great deal of time with bulldog rescues.  I always tell people that who are looking to own a bulldog "be prepared".

Some of the common health issues with english bulldogs are cherry eye, skin problems, and breathing problems.  I hate to say it, but Hip Dysplasia and ACL tears are also commom.

For example:  My 11 year old bully had Cherry eye, which had to be sewn back in place.  Tore is ACL, and because of breathing problems he contracted Pneumonia which meant additional days at the vet post surgery.  Tore his other ACL last year, the list goes on.  Not to mention Medications, ear infections, yeast infections, etc........

Did I talk you out of one yet?????  hahahahaha  It's a great breed just takes some work.....

That is soooooooooo true. The smell good shampoo lasts about 5 minutes after a bath.  What about the constant water puddles in the house after they drink from the water bowl.....

I've ordered nearly a ton of stuff for him to be prepared when he gets here.  Got a wire kennel for at night, an orthopedic bed for him, Royal Canin Bulldog puppy food, about 10 toys I think, stainless flat side and bottom food and water dishes and a mat for them to sit on until he gets big enough for an elevated feeder I'll build, his UGA leather collar and a few other things... We're as ready as we're gonna get other than putting the gates back up to section the kitchen off from him.

Congratulations! Dogs rock!

I have two that I love to death.... they're my boys. 95 and 150 lbs. of love and dedication.

150 pounds ?  you sure that's not a horse ???  hhahaha

Rookie:  sounds like you got it covered, You'll find with trial and error that dog toys will not last long with your bully, even the Kong brand.  The key is to keep replacing toys they destroy.  It keeps them focused on the toy instead of your wifes shoes, furniture, etc.

Royal Canin is some good stuff.  It is much easier for them to grab the kibble....

No one has asked the important question here-

Can this breed trim a shaft? :)

Enjoy him Rookie, dogs are great additions to any family.  As we move into the middle part of life they are a tremendous excuse to get out, get moving and grab some exercise.  Peanut and I are just about to go on a little hike in the rain.  It's just what I need this morning.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Well, his bed has already been delivered... Got this one for now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EP5UF8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've also ordered a bacon flavored NylaBone, a Tuffy Gary Gator (cause all English Bulldogs need to make a habit of chewing on GatorBait), and a Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel for toys that should be delivered.

Congrats, he's pretty cute.  My oldest asked for a dog last weekend, then when we told her "no", she asked for a little brother. lol

All my dog will play with is this stinky stuffed star she had when we adopted her. We weren't going to take it with us, but the people we got her from said, "oh, that's her favorite, you better take that with you." Its so nasty. She's like 11 years old and got her when she was about 1.5 years to give an idea how stinky and awful this toy is. LOL!
