fozcycle
Well, Here is what I plan on gaming this Season..... I have gone through the Fits by Hogan and SCOR.......then, applied some of it to some new aquisitions on ebay. Mizuno JPX800 Pros with Project X 5.0 graphite shafts Mizuno HPX 800 FliHi 5 iron with regular steel SCOR wedges 50*, 54* & 57* with steel shafts I then tweaked my 5 W to 17* and removed my 3W from the bag. I also added my Powerbilt 3H(20*) and 4H(23*) to complete the set. I like my loft differentials and now will need a few rounds to get used to them. Overall, I am excited to have a consistent gap with my clubs. Hopefully, I will be able to improve my game. I really like the feel of the Mizunos and SCORs. The Powerbilts are very consistent and I love my Bio Cell Driver & 5W. BIG STU
Sounds like you got it dialed in Fozzy. I am seriously considering dropping my beloved 3 wood for a 5 wood but don't know yet. I still hit the 3 great but cant get it as high as I used to. My next experiment will help me decide. I am contemplating refurbing one of my 1 irons to a senior flex graphite and will be playing with some loft numbers Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. With the smaller head, I think I swing it better. wbealsd
Sounds like a great setup, I agree that with the adjust-ability of the newer fairway woods, it's easier for many of us to find a reliable "long wood" than it used to be. I agree with the Hogan model, the important number is the loft I need, not an arbitrary number some OEM stamps on it. fozcycle
Yes, I like the Hogan Fit model. I am teaching myself to think degress of loft rather than iron number. Especially since I switched fromt he Bio Cells to the Mizunos.....the lofts were almost a club different. Now that I added an extra wedge, going from 45, 52, 56 to 45, 50, 54, 57 I should be able to dial in the scoring clubs. BIG STU
Foz That sheds some light on what I am trying to work on. My old 3 wood is an old tour head and it is 13* then my next fairway is 21* and those gaps work for me out of the fairway. Where my problem lies is that I am not as good off the tee anymore with the 3 wood so I push the issue some with the 7 wood and keep getting away with it but for how long? I cannot absolutely hit hybrids so I am figuring modifying one of my 1 irons for off the tee in those layup situations or finding me a V-Steel 4 or 5 wood to fix for me Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. KRUUUNCH!!!
Have you tried hitting an Adams A12OS hybrid? They really are an easy club to hit and great off the deck but looking at your hdcp you're probably better suited for a driving iron like the fg v4 utility from wilson staff. The new Fairway woods are very adjustable, so you can try several Lofts without buying a bunch of clubs. I swing the smaller 5W better than the 3W so i went with the 5W adjusted to 17*. It's my 170-180 yd club. BIG STU
The 7 wood is variable for me (21*) I can hit it around 170 to 190 depending on what shot I hit. I hit the 3 wood about 200 to 225 but I have lost confidence off the tee. I can still hit any of the 4 1 irons I own about 200 to 210 off a tee but I have to jump on it to do that and then only quail high. Of course all of my 1 irons are from my younger days and have a variety of shafts from a S-400 to a X-100 and that is just too much shaft for me now. Like I said I can jump on one and still hit it but that tends to throw my tempo off for the whole round. I did a setup for a young pro friend of mine the other week off an idea he had. We took a Titleist 3 iron and put an Aldila stiff flex graphite shaft in it (too stiff for me) and he hits it great. Got me to thinking about the 1 iron thing for me or possibly the 5 wood. I have space in my bag because I am currently only carrying 13 clubs. Actually this kid had me attempting to hit his 19* Titleist hybrid and that thing has so much shaft in it I can barely get it off the ground even on a tee! I told him get this #$%@! thing out of here. I had to hit about 20 balls with my PW to get my tempo back since I was jumping on it so hard.
