Hello from San Antonio

Recommended Posts

Glad to come aboard - looks like a great group to belong to. Have been playing golf most of my life; got my first set of clubs from PING founder Karsten Solhiem as a birthday present. I retired as a corporate media chief. Before taking on that role, I worked in sports television - ABC, CBS, NBC Sports, and Monday Night Football, and took on assignments for the AP and UPI wire services. Golf has always been a passion of mine; I look forward to engaging other members in conversations dealing with all aspects of the sport. As a side note: I've ordered the new Hogan irons, and hope to take possession of them in April.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I see you're from Columbus. Probably shouldn't talking to you since I'm a Michigan man :) Actually Central Michigan, to be exact. Glad to see Ohio State win the championship and make the Big Ten (or whatever it is now) revenant again. So much for the SEC. Best to you, "ties," and keep in touch.  Fred

Welcome fbluhm! Hope you enjoy the forum as much as I have. Great guys, great conversations. I am a little envious of your Hogan purchase. I have 5 SCORs and would really like the Hogans to fill out the irons, but I need to try before I buy.

OH man...how quickly friendships end haha. I'm actually excited and hopeful M******* can get better. The rivalry just isn't the same as it was. It was be great for both the rivalry and the BIG10 for them to get better.

p.s. - Michigan is a BEAUTIFUL state. Love going upstate.

Kenny: good to hear from you. Speaking of your SCORS - Don't know if you know this or not, but the main man behind the introduction of the new Hogan irons is Terry Koehler, the man behind SCORS wedges. He also worked for Ben Hogan while the company was still making clubs. My best, Fred

Fred, yes I have been following Terry Koehler for quite awhile. I bought a 54 and a 58 over a year ago, and then revkev and markb did a forum test on the SCORs last year, and as a result I bought a 50, 46, and 42. Love them! If you haven't read the form test yet, check it out. There are several threads about SCORs, but the results of the test has led to several MGS'ers buying them. I am sure I would like the Hogans as well, but I need to see if the SCORs and the Hogans "feel" the same. As soon as I find a fitter close, I will make the trip when they are available.

Love San Antonio. Been thinking about a visit down there with all the Texas guys on the forum. Maybe someday!

Kenny: I hear what you're saying. With all the options available out there, like SCORS wedges, you know that there's a lot of hype attached to the Vokey wedges. Cleveland is an excellent brand, and is probably better known for their wedges than clubs. Kind of like Adams is better known for their fairway woods than irons. Don't know much about Hopkins wedges, but I think the company is slowly getting a share of the market. When more fitting locations are available, I may try out the Hogan wedges. Who knows? I took advantage of the early ordering of the Hogans, so I'm one of the first 1,000 to get them. I'm going to make a point of voicing my opinion on golfspy after playing with them for a while. I'm sure there are some others on this site who will also be getting some, too. Took basic training at Fort Lewis a 100 years ago. Love Washington :)

Yeah, that's on the rainy side of Washington. It's beautiful about 8 months out of the year, but I don't like playing in rain. I live on the eastern side of the state in the desert, and can play golf all year long. Not much rain, very little snow....usually.

Greetings fellow Texan. Well your not a true Texan but I forgive ya. At least you're here now... in Texas and a member of MGS. Ha. Anyway.... welcome to MGS. You're going to really enjoy participating in the forum. I frequent the Austin area a lot and occasionally SA. Perhaps one day we'll get a game up. Play well.

Basic at Lackland, stationed at Kelly AFB for a year back in the early 90's, loved San Antonio, it actually helped us make the decision to move south, although we are now in South Carolina, but we are from southwest lower MICHIGAN, welcome to the forum.
