Anger Management

So this popped up in my email this morning  . I found it hilarious but it would be a great way to let out some frustration on the course?

 

How do you deal with your anger on the course?

I don't necessarily get angry on the course. Certainly by throwing a club or some such juvenile behavior. When I was younger I had an few episodes of club throwing. When I see guys do that now days I just laugh. When guys I'm playing against getting ready to blow a gasket I secretly hope they do. I know then I own them and the game is mine. They usually don't recover from it. So when we play by all means throw a few clubs and get yourself all worked up. I'll gladly accept your press.

That's hilarious!! I used to be a serious hot head on the course. When I was younger I put way to much pressure on myself and I expected perfection. It only got worse when I started on the mini tours. After I got hurt in 2004 and couldn't play for a year. As soon as I recovered I joined the Navy and didn't play for another year. When I started playing again the anger wasn't as bad. But all the anger went completely away (other then the occasional calling myself names) when my son was born. The first round after he was born I shot 64!!! Ever since then I realized I won't be a pro again so there isn't any reason to get so mad at myself

I really struggled with anger on the course my first few years once I started to improve. I hold myself to extremely high standards. The thing that helped me the most was last year when I read "Golf is not a Game of Perfect" by Bob Rotella.

I don't allow myself to angry on the course. That doesn't mean I don't get aggravated or frustrated at times. When I feel myself getting angry, I just remind myself why I'm out there. If playing golf makes me angry, I should just quit. Playing golf is for fun and recreation. Being angry is neither.

I don't really get angry, disappointed yes, but not angry.

I dont get mad on the golf course because Im not good enough to get mad.  I make cars for a living, not play golf.  I dont rely on golf to put food on the table, so if I have a bad round, who cares?  Theres no reason to get mad about it.

I must admit though, I do find it pretty funny when other people blow up on the golf course.

I get frustrated more than angry and I laugh it off....should see me, going around the course giggling like an idiot.

Been thru a lot and its helped to gain perspective I guess is one thing that is a positive. I don't get mad like I used to. I broke one club in anger once and felt like an idiot having to get it repaired.

 

I used to think I was better than I am and my expectations were out of whack. Funny, fewer expectations led to better golf for me.

Hilariously, my mom is a big quilter in retirement. She quilted damnit dolls for everyone in the family with our favorite sports team. My wife got a little damnit doll Cowboy with number 8 on the back. I got a Chargers one.

I end up laughing like I'm crying sometimes, but yes... me too.

I get angry but  usually it's a flash and I try to calm down quickly. It's not easy but I rarely have meltdowns when I'm not all by myself.

When I was young (8 - 10) I saw my cousin (PGA Tour card carrier in the late 1950's) wrap an iron around a young sappling that had a couple wooden supports(to protect it).  He totally bent the H#$% out of the shaft.  I knew then that i would never throw a club....and i have not.  Now that doesn't mean i haven't dropped one to the ground vigorously after flubbing a shot, but that does not even occur anymore.

 

Any anger issues that I may come across are dealt with internally. Take a couple deep breaths then concentrate on the next shot.

I'll call myself some names but I haven't tossed a club in a long, long time. It's just not worth it anymore and I'm not good enough to get that worked up.

I call myself names and I put myself down, but I never throw clubs.  I may drop one but never throw one.  Sometimes after a bad shot all let the anger out in one short burst, and then it's all over, but I don't do anything too drastic.  Sometimes I will just yell some random noise to get it out of my system.
