Individual Driver head spin

Recommended Posts

If all things are equal, say the MGS driver test is done with all the same shaft, same frequency, and actual loft(not stated loft).  Is there a table or document that shows how much drivers spin?  I.E. Does a SLDR 10* spin more or less than a BB Alpha 10* with the shafts and swingweights and such exactly the same?   I wonder how the club tests would be different if they all used the same head.  Reason I ask, I have multiple heads sitting around my house and would love to optimize one but going through the work and cost of buying all the connectors and fittings to be able to interchange shafts on a launch monitor would be a nightmare.  They aren't adjustable drivers so it makes that part harder.  Any ideas or direction?

Each driver will have it's own geometry, weight, CoG location, MOI, CoR and if you haven't had them digitally loft checked either, then the lofts will be a complete mixed bag too.

So all things being equal (shafts included) it's pretty much impossible to say which head will spin more or less than others, without comparing each one in turn.

Obvious characteristics like low loft, forward weight and and higher CoG location will tend to promote lower spin, but it's not quite that simple in reality.

My advice would be to choose which set up fits your eye the best first - looks count for a lot in how well you feel you can swing a club. Speaking of feel - this would be the next in importance in choosing the best set up. If you don't like how a club looks or feels from the outset, then there's not much point in continuing any further.

Once you can decide on what head you want, then you can begin to fine tune it to your requirements.

Sorry, but there just aren't any short cuts to getting fitted properly to a driver - but if there really were one component to concentrate the least on in getting fitted, then spin would probably be high on the agenda.

Here's option 2.  Depending on the number of heads/shafts it could still get a little expensive, but it's far less expensive than getting 10 identical shafts and tips to test just the heads.  Plus even 10 identical shafts won't be exactly the same.

I would guess your best bet and probably least expensive option would be to just go in for a driver fitting somewhere good.

I agree, hoped there was an easier way.  I am probably going to head down your way for a tour van fitting at 2nd swing.  It seems unreal.  I would like to find a place that has that conex system, then I can just get the hosel pieces and take my heads into them.  Thanks for the responses.

How many heads and what are they?

If they are from the past couple of years Golfspy T might be able to give some overall impressions based on most wanted testing

I have a KZG SPX 12*, KZG vc 420 10.5, and a Razr fit Xtreme 10.5    I really like the feel of KZG clubs, very solid at impact, similar to exotics cb2, 3 and 4's.  I don't like the mushy trampoline feel of the newer drivers very much but if they perform I can tolerate it.
