What you dislike or find is annoying on the course?

Ok I'm moving this from another thread. Apparently some peopled are bothered by music when they play. I myself, cannot play well when the round is super slow or backed up. What is it that you find to be poor etiquette or bad form on the golf course? Also what do you do that some possibly would consider poor etiquette?

I like music and will ask to play through if play is too slow.

The only thing that bugs me on the course are dudes who spend 10 minutes deciding on which club to hit. This is literally the only thing. Talk in my back swing, I do not care. Go back to your bag fifteen times on a 250 yard second shot on a par 5? **** YOU.

Slow play can bother me. Not if they're just not so great players slow play. Its the people who take 2-3-4 tee shots in a  group of 4 with the course backed up. No awareness of those around them. That extends off the course too haha.

Edit : If I'm playing with my Dad we can tend to take too long looking for golf balls. Mainly because we're cheap.

Slow play use to destroy me. Even three years ago when I started playing and couldn't get the ball off the ground I would just pick up and play from a friend's ball so I didn't slow anyone down. I've worked hard at mellowing out when stuck behind slow players so that it doesn't affect my round.

I'm not sure that I do anything that would be considered poor etiquette. I am fortunate to play with a group of older guys some of whom have played for twice as long as I've been alive and have taught me a lot about etiquette. Not just in golf but also in life. I also have a great respect for the history and traditions of the game.

I'm going to add one. It drives me up a wall when a group plays super slowly but won't let faster groups through even though there isn't anyone in front of them. Show some awareness people! If the group behind is sitting there waiting on you after every single shot then it's time they played through.

Like Undershooter said, awareness of the groups around you. Let faster grips play through or pick up the pace. And not caring for the course. Replace or fill divots. Repair ball marks.

Also.......this:

I know it's range and not on the course, but oh it really bugs me.

Amen to the slow players bugging the crap out of me.  I'm ok if the course is backed up and you are keeping up with the group ahead of you.  However we have several places on our course where you can see 5 or 6 entire holes and the green or tee box of another 1 or 2.  When I see huge gaps where groups are more than a hole behind I get extremely annoyed.

The other is watching people not fix ball marks on the greens, it's the golf version of leaving your shopping cart in the parking lot instead of shoving it into the cart corral.  Takes 30 seconds to do and makes the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Going to plead the 5th on my bad habits.

Slow play, yes! Especially when I'm walking. My course is notorious for slow play. I try to avoid it on weekends unless I'm in a club tournament. Which, can be equally as painful.

Ball marks on the greens also drive me crazy. Some days I would love to stand on the first tee and just hand out divot repair tools. I love repairing my ball marks on the green because, it was most likely preceded by a good approach shot. It's a badge of honor.

Then there are the guy's that read their puts like they're putting for a win at the masters. When in fact, they're putting for a double bogey from twenty feet.

Don't even get me going on course attire! Sweatpants, work boots. Please don't play in front of me!

- goose and duck crap

- the group behind you that heckles you because you are "causing" the slow play, even though there are 5 groups backed up ahead of your group

- overreacting way too much (I've been guilty of this)

guys that I regularly play with:

Guy 1. Always on his cell phone. More than half of the holes. If you're that busy you probably shouldn't be golfing.

Guy 2. Always drops another. Say he misses the green from 100 yards or didn't like a chip, here comes another one. Probably hits twenty or more extra shots and putts over the course of the round. It's not that it's time consuming or that he's slow because he's not but it's like, hey buddy- if you want to practice the range is over there.

Guy 3. There are actually a ton of guys who do this, "what'd you hit there?" A- we don't hit it the same distance. B- how do you know if it was a 3/4, knock down, if I hit it good or not, etc C- your ball is ten yards closer or further to the target.

Guy 4. Too cheap to buy a laser. If you're going to ask me for a yardage on every shot for the entire round you better believe I'm going to get annoyed. I'm not your caddy and this laser isn't community.

I hunt ducks and geese. They're stubborn as heck during hunting season. During golf season I can't get away from them and need an extra slot in my bag for my shotgun.

Slow play on the greens. I cannot stand it, especially since most of the guys I play with have played the course 1000 times, hey man, I broke 5 inches to the right the last 8 times you hit our ball there, my guess is it's going to do the same today.

I think I annoy people with how quickly I hit the ball, playing the par 3's especially, the guy in front of my hits, and usually before he picks he tee up, I am about ready to start my swing, they didn't even get the chance to say man did you as how well I hit that. I really don't mind anyone talking or starting to talk while I am swinging I have it all tuned out. It's like shooting a shotgun, at the range you here it loud and clear, but if the deer is in front if you, the perception is that you don't here it at all.

Mainly 2 things. Music and Laser Range finders.

I don't want to hear your music so stop making me listen to it.

Secondly, and this applies to guys that ride in carts: You pull up to the ball. Get out and stand next to the ball and Laser the distance. Walk back to the cart and put the Laser away. Walk back to his bag and select a club. Walk back over to the ball and begin pre-shot routine. Finally... finally just hit the damn thing. Good grief !!! You're not that good and certainly not that accurate.

Aside from playing better and actually getting some exercise I walk almost exclusively just for the above stated reasons. Oh, and did I say... I might not even like you enough to want to ride around for 4 hours shoulder to shoulder on your little love seat.

MUD!

I am sick of mud. I know, while most of the country spends months with no golf because of the weather, I really should not complain, but we have had so much rain and snow and rain and more rain that my course has been closed to carts and many days even walkers.

Yesterday, I managed to walk 9 holes around noon and the 18th fairway was so muddy and slippery I barely made it up the hill.

I just checked and it was not really the rain, it was the snow. It snowed 3 times, usually just once, for a total of 6-10 inches, and rain mixed in. Since the snow really soaks the ground here, because the ground is not cold enough to freeze, it gets soggy. Then it seems like we have another half inch of rain every other day.

Ok, rant over. After years of drought I should shut up and enjoy.

Wow, dont know if i have any that havent already been put on the table.

Music: fina as long as it isnt blaring, and you turn it down after we get out of the cart for shots.

Slow Play: Yes, I've pulled up to the tee box when the second of your foursome it teeing it up for the last 4 holes. I am only with one other guy. Do the math. (On a positive, I have had this scenerio and was allowed by 4 groups in a row to play through)

Pain in the A** Marshals: I get it, you want to keep the pace of play. But if you tell me one more time while me and my foursome are on the green to speed it up and the group ahead of  just walked up to the next tee, we are gonna have a problem, you A**hat!

Attire: If you dont respect the game and traditions enough to look proper, fine. I can deal with cutoffs, and workboots and Levis. But if your clothes (especially those who try to dress in proper golf attire) appears that it came out of your teenagers closet, or if I can tell your religion, GET OFF THE COURSE. Save your greens fees for today and go get some clothes that fit.

So endeth the sermon......(stepping off soapbox)

I played golf with Barbajo on Sunday, his pace of play is just fine. His waggle is almost as smooth as Charles Barkley, but since he did not have the short game yips that I did, I should not say much.

1.  Slow play (like everyone else)

2.  People in carts that park a football field away from their ball, then walk to their ball.  (If they walk back to their cart to re-club, you'll get a reaction from me)

3.  Courses that stack corporate outing tournaments on top of regular tee times ON THE WEEKEND !!!!

4.  Looking  forward to playing a certain course only to find poka dots on the greens.  I HATE THAT !!!!!!!

5.  THAT GUY WHO WAITS FOR THE GREEN TO CLEAR FOR HIS SECOND SHOT ON A PAR 5,  THEN ONLY HITS IT 50 YARDS.

6.  Search parties that spend 10 minutes plus looking for a Rock Flight.

Not to self: don't wear my skinny jeans while playing with Bogey  :(

Kidding - my fat a$$ would rip skinny jeans.

1. Slow Play 2. Cell phones 3. Traps not raked

1.  I think Kor a dor nailed the reason for slow play, certainly he did at my course.  It's all about the greens and people taking a ridiculous amount of time to read and then to putt at a place that they've played 100 times.  For crying out loud the ball breaks the same way as it did last week. :)

2.  Many of us live busy lives.  I don't mind when someone tells me ahead of time that they may have to take a call on the course, heck I'm a minister, emergencies occur, I've had to leave the course before because some one died but I turn my phone off and check it periodically so that I'm not bothering others in my group.

3.  What does one say?  In league we are playing by the rules.  It's bad enough to be in an unraked trap by the greenside but at least there you can get it out and on the green. There are times though that I will take on fairway traps on my course because they are not so bad and the risk is worth the reward (a par 5 becomes reachable and a par 4 nets a short iron instead of a mid-iron/hybrid if I can skirt a couple of traps).  It's not worth it if the stupid ball is in someone's big fat unraked footprint.  Perhaps they could put up a flag, visible from the tee - I didn't bother to rake, so that I might know first and change my strategy.

5.  THAT GUY WHO WAITS FOR THE GREEN TO CLEAR FOR HIS SECOND SHOT ON A PAR 5,  THEN ONLY HITS IT 50 YARDS.

Guilty

Waiting for a green to clear on a par 5 is the quickest way to guarantee I'm going to hit it fat.

Holy crap I didn't even think of that Rick but me too! I need some summer and rock hard fairways.
