...a little tension on the Tour...?

I have to admit to not having watched a lot of the AP Invitational over the weekend, but I was catching up on what happened over the weekend and it seems that my wife and girls are not the only ones on vacation... the whole PGA Tour 'Public Relations & Common Decency' Department must've taken a break as well...

To be fair, it is a bit of a mixed bag, but I sense that the tension on tour is escalating... here's what happened...

Someone didn't like Duane Bock's (caddie for Kevin Kisner) shorts he wore Saturday... more specifically the color of them.

Now, I can agree with the PGA Tour on one thing - Salmon is a fish, not a color! This is not an opinion, it is scholarly fact attested to by a group of people who agree with my assertion ;)

Seriously though, how can the PGA Tour have a problem with Mr Bock's shorts, but not have a problem with John Daly smoking and wearing almost-nude women on his pants?!?! [these beauties were a 2014 edition, but you can sub in any pants Mr Daly wears]

Then on Sunday, Henrik Stenson and Morgan Hoffman got put on the clock for the last 4 holes of the tournament - with Stenson very much in contention. From what I read Stenson fell just short of blaming the PGA Tour officials for his poor putting and him not winning the tournament, but its clear to say that he wasn't happy with being rushed for each shot.

Now I'm a big Henrik Stenson fan, but I don't have a problem with the PGA Tour keeping a watch on timing. I also think that Stenson and Hoffman would have had nothing to worry about if they hadn't crawled through the whole round.  I do wonder whether there should have been some leniency, but then where do you stop - just the weekend? just Sunday? Best to have a blanket policy I guess

Henrik was sweating over those 3' putts all day....almost looked yippy at times, so he can't blame that on the officials.  I have had a good round ruined by being put on the clock though, even though we were waiting on the group in front of us all damn day.

As for the caddy, I think the PGA is taking any shot they can at these guys, because of the lawsuit.

So what IS the official PGA Tour policy for the color of shorts that caddies can wear?

Short answer (pun intended) is that they have to be knee length and solid color. It really seems like a baseless gripe from the Tour officials. They're trying to stamp their authority, but are coming up short (again, pun intended)... ;)

Either change the policy or let it go.  Seems pretty childish on the tour's part.

Guarantee if a player wore that color it would not be an issue.

Being put on the clock and being in one of the final groups, I can see where that would be irritating but you can't put the full blame on that.

The shorts thing is ridiculous though, as mentioned, a tour player could where that color and it wouldn't cause a problem.

If color is not stated in policy and I was the caddie who was told after the round is over that the color is not acceptable, I would have told him to p*ss off.  I was for the caddie's case before; this cinches it for me.

Multi-colored shorts seemed to be OK for LPGA caddies.  Pornanong Phatlum is sponsored by Loudmouth Golf and her caddie (I think it's her brother) wears matching outfit.  Guess the LPGA is not quite so stuck up.

If the PGA caddies win the lawsuit, wouldn't that also affect LPGA and Champions Tour caddies?  The result could have big ramifications.

Stupid!!

As far as being put on the clock, huh?? I've watched golf a long time, and I dont understand it I guess, I'm all for speeding up pkay, but I agree with Charlie Rymer this morning when he said Stenson should have told the officials to basically stick it, and taken his time on those putts. At most he would have been fined. The tour is losing points with the players as well as public. The problem with putting guys on the clock is, that they are not consistent with it and there is no stated punishment, basically they can punish however they like. Total Bologna.
