hckymeyer
Theoo's topic on pro's changing equipment before Augusta got me thinking about my own bag make up and how much influence my course has had on it. The longer clubs in my bag have changed significantly since I started playing here and while it's partly due to how I was hitting what it replaced and how I hit the current clubs, I think my course has played a large part in what I selected. If you play a course enough you will consistently find yourself in certain places on the course, and you need a club for that shot. I don't know how my bag would have changed over the years if I played a bunch of random courses, but playing 90% of my rounds on one course over the past 3 seasons has definitely influenced what I have in my bag. I have a larger selection of hybrids for shots that I know I will find myself hitting a lot on my course. So do the courses you play influence what goes in your bag? Do you change it out from course to course or always keep the same make up? Driver: SLDR w/ Fujikura Ventus Black 3w: '16 M2 hl w/ Diamana D+ 82 5w: Launcher HB w/ HZRDUS Yellow Hybrid: 22 deg. Mr_Theoo
My bag doesn't but the more I think about it should. I know when I went to Memphis to play I would have killed to have a club I could have hit from the deck longer than my 4i. I've also played courses where they've been short enough driver is all I needed off the tee but would have liked more iron/wedge options. I think with my next set of irons I am going to take a closer look at my lofts and get them speced out to give me more options. jbil8802
Mine stays the same. I play a lot of different courses throughout the season most of which we only play once. The two courses that I play most often I can't remember ever thinking that I wished I had a different club. Although now that my entire bag is fitted to me I have way more confidence when I'm standing over the ball. My first three rounds this year have been as good as my best rounds last year even with winter rust and less than ideal course conditions. I hate having to take as many half swings as I do just too get the right distances. My decision making on 170 and below is almost ike having to solve some complex math equation for swing length and loft. Mr_Theoo
This. I hate having to take as many half swings as I do just too get the right distances. My decision making on 170 and below is almost ike having to solve some complex math equation for swing length and loft. Oh wait, that's exactly what it's like. I agree, one thing that works in my favor is I am comfortable taking full swings with my higher lofted wedges. wbealsd
I didn't until last year, the first season I played most of my golf at just two courses. The courses are very different, particularly the greens, rough and par 3 distances, so I used a different putter and added a wedge at one course, different putter and added a fairway wood at the other. Kenny B
No difference. Driver all the time off the tee, even on tight holes. I've got 5 SCORs ( well 4 today; 5 when I fix my 42), so I have all short shot covered. Need to maybe replace fairway wood and 3H, but not because of any particular course. While clubs don't change, my strategy on how to play certain courses DOES change; not so much what clubs, but shot shape. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
BIG STU
It can but for me it is based on the weather more than the course but then again sometimes it may be the course. Good example one course that we used to play some mini events on I needed to hit a rope draw on 2 holes so I would pull out my 3 iron and carry my wife's 7 wood that is short with a ladies flex shaft. On a couple of courses I would pull out my 3 wood and carry my old Toney Penna Driver for a lay up drive. But this has changed maybe now. A friend of mine taught me the short punch driver trick and I have been practicing it. I have simplified my game now and I am only carrying 12 clubs. Seems to be working now. One thing that has drastically changed for me is I went back to the way I used to do it with only 3 wedges and I pulled out my beloved 3 wood because I got to where I was not consistant with it like I used to be Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. Very effective. I am changing out my 3W and 3H this year. I will probably go with a 5W and 7/9W, but don't know which brand to get. Some don't make the higher lofted woods, but I am not one to need matching clubs, just fill the gaps. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
ACcustomX
I'm not that good or just don't think about it. My home course is short @6100, but is very tight with small greens. Only a couple of holes that aren't par 3's I don't pull driver on only because I'll run out of fairway. When I play most other longer courses the fairways and greens look huge so, it's fair game to really get after it. My home course has made me really comfortable taking full wedge shots from 120 and in. Besides, I don't know what I would change??? The distance gaps in my bag is pretty good right now. Undershooter
My bag changes depending on the course conditions and the course I'm playing. I can drop 2 wedges for 1 different wedge and a long club if the course dictates. I can also go back and forth in the long clubs. The mix includes driver, 3w, 5w(rarely use), a 1iron and maybe pull my 3 iron if I'm really feeling squirly. At one of my courses' club championship last year I played without a driver because the course was so short and windy. Its an executive par 64. The only hole that really called for a driver was the par 5 18th that was dead straight and allowed a miss out to the right. If I recall, I still got there in 2 both days going 3W to iron.
