westy
Maybe this isn't the day for golf? Wind steady at 30mph and gusting much higher, hard rain showers coming through and mud all up my legs. Love 'spring' golf. Couldn't play in the comp in the morning, shame as the best gross score was 80 and 85 would have got me in top 3! To be fair it was even worse weather this morning. GolfSpy Barbajo
Yikes -- nothing good could come of playing on a day like this. Blustery in MN, too: 25-30 MPH winds. westy
Got to the 7th and the flag had blown off the pole, had to hit driver into one of the par 3's and I didn't enjoy the first (par 5) straight into the teeth. But, it wasn't snowing so it could have been worse. I really don't mind the wind. Played yesterday in 15-25mph with higher gusts. I guess I am used to it because it blows here quite a bit. Usually, my scores are not all that different in wind vs no wind. It can be a big equalizer when playing better players. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
Kor.A.Door
That was definitely how it was Saturday for us as well, it seemed lime every hole was straight into the wind, if you hit a nice draw it turned into a 40 yard slice, if you hit a fade, we'll grab another ball cause you ain't gonna find that one. 100 yard shot with a 9 iron and still come up short. It was a difficult day, our lowest score in the group was 77 and he normally shoots par or better Lefties are always in their Right Mind
sp0rtsfan86
Played last year in straight up dust storm/ monsoon conditions. Winds howled at 30-40MPH and gusts were above 50 MPH. I had to play a par 3 that's less than 100 yards 30 yards right of the green. That was among one of the more fun golf moments. Bogey in The Woods
I know the feeling. Was watching the Valero on Saturday, thought I could play in those winds if they could. Went out Sunday and tried. Shouldnt have. 136yrd Par 3. Had to use my 4 hybrid to reach it shooting right into the wind tunnel. Have played in what I thought was wind. Nothing like this though. Kenny B
A couple of years ago my wife and I were in Palm Springs for the Humana Challenge. We went to the first round because there are fewer crowds and you can get closer to the players. Nice day. The rest of the time we were playing golf. On one of those days, they cancelled the round for the Humana because of high winds and dust. Tore up all their tents. We were playing at Cimarron GC which is by the airport and has no trees. That wind came up mid round, but we managed to finish. I hit driver on a 150y par 3 and came up 20 yards short of the green. On the last hole my wife was addressing her ball, and a tumbleweed rolled up her back and over her head. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
revkev
I think - "Where did I put that bottle of scotch?" I've learned to love different days and particularly prefer them for tournaments because I believe they will give me an edge over and against my competition. The object is to shoot the lowest score possible that day. Some days that score might be a 69 and other days 81. That's golf. Jmikecpa
I would go back to the grill room and watch golf on TV. I hit the ball way to high to play in those conditions and the only two balls that would be well struck would be if I stepped on a rake. WITB 2024 Driver: Qi10 LS 9* Ltd. RoverRick
If I let a little 30 mph wind and gusts keep me from playing golf then I would play half the golf I do now. You simply hit knock down shots and expect high scores. I was amazed that Barbajo came to Texas in March and there was no wind to speak of. I fully expected to have him blown off the course. Angry Hulk came down a couple of years ago and we had to put rocks in his pockets to keep him from blowing away. But we did have plenty of mud for our Minnesota guest.
