My new Hogans just arrived!

Nifty by reading your signature I see you are also a big fan like I am of the Pro Force 65 shafts in your woods. good shafts!! I also like the way you have oviously found the gaps that will work for your game. The old Citation blades you mentioned were one hell of a set of blades! I played a set of 66 model Horse Shoe Citations for 11 years until I wore them slam out.

Stu, from your clubs, 23-28-33-38-43-48-53-58-63= nine clubs

Am I pairing them up correctly?  5(23 - 6(28) - 7(33) - 8(38) - 9(43) -  53(PW) - 58(SW) - 63(LW)

I take it that you have good coverage with the 5* gap system.

I am transitioning to the following:

5(25) - 6(29) - 7(33) - 8(37) - 9(41) - PW(45) - GW(49) - SW(53) - LW(57)

This will be using a Cobra Baffler 5 Hybrid; Mizuno JPX800 6 thru PW, SCOR 49/53/57, followed up with Putter, Driver, 3Wood, 5Wood & 3 Hybrid, for a total of 14 clubs.  With this I will have 4* gaps as suggested by the Hogan Fit system.

23º=   3-iron and will see little time in bag; it's there just to have a full set.

28º=   4-iron

33º=   5½-iron

38º=   7-iron

43º=   8-iron

48º=   9-iron

53º=   PW

58º=   LW

63º=   short side miss wedge

Have dedicated driving and sand irons, Epon and Worx

Note, Foz, that these relate to 1950s/1960s loft standards.

1=18º

2=21º

3=24º

4=28º

5=32º

6=36º

7=40º

8=44º

9=48º

To younger players, these lofts are wildly weak, but they're the numbering system that went into place when the old club names from the hickory shaft era (mid-iron, mashie, niblick, et al) were replaced.  The lofts started to get stronger in the mid to late 70s.

Stu, UST 65 Golds are my favorite wood shafts because shafts with the flex higher up near the grip make me hit line drives and shafts with even softer tips make me spray shot dispersion.

In irons, I've played NV Pro 105s (Aldila) in recent sets so the UST Recoil 660s are giving me a bit of a dispersion problem right now.  The clubheads seem awesome, however, enabling a mid-handicapper like myself to enjoy blades.

It's raining today so I'm typing instead of swinging!

Nifty hit it dead on specs with the 50/60s lofts.My front line irons are 1980 VIP reissues and they were built from the factory to original specs and what he posted is dead on it. I do not carry a gap wedge I just have a standard PW @50* 56* SW and 60* lob wedge. I am strictly old school and manuniplate the wedges to get what I need. My vintage set is 1962 Macgregor CF-4000s and have the same lofts and lies except with that set I do not carry a 60*. On my front line set I carry a 7 wood 21* and a 9 wood 24* I hit different shots with these clubs versus the 4 and 5 irons. On the vintage set I carry 4&5 woods which are the same lofts as my (sic) modern V-Steel woods and with the vintage set I do not carry a 3 wood but a 1 iron instead. When it is real windy and dry here I pull the 3 wood out of my set and put in the 1 iron. It may sound screwey as heck but it works for me
