I've had decent success with Nike and Ping putters - can't say I'm a TaylorMade putter fan tho, and have never gamed a Scotty.  Of the others, I've tried Lynx and MacGregors at GolfSmith - for the price they aren't bad.  Have tried Heavy Putters at Golf Galaxy - not a fan.

That said, I've tried the new Odyssey Works series -- mercy!  It's all I can do to keep from buying yet another putter....

With barbajo, those odyssey works putters are so tempting.

But the truth I suspect is no one company is best, as is proved by the fact one company doesn't have control of the market.

I like nike, ping, never compromise, yes! And a few others. But are they the best? No just feel good to me, we are all different. I'm not put off by ugly strange putters - Nike Drone is seat a few feet from me and that bad boy is ugly. Others can't stand anything but anser style, or 8802 style.

There's a lot of putters I like, but I don't necessarily putt better just because I like the way they look.  I started having more of an issue putting after I had eye surgery and since then, I keep returning to the Nike Method Core.  There are others I "like" better aesthetically, but I just seem to control my distance better and make more putts, or at least minimize my total putts, with it.

Different strokes for different folks, especially when it comes to putters!

I'll answer it this way. If I had to choose a putter manufacturer from that list to play exclusively for the rest of my golf career, I'd choose PING.

Pedigree of innovation. Classic designs. Lots of choices. I like putters made by most manufacturers but I'd go PING if I had to pick one.

Maybe one way to answer this is to list the putters by each company that you have played or would play. For me, that PING list would be the longest.

The best putter is the one that makes the putts hands down.  Name a manufacturer and I more than likely own at least one putter that they make and I can't say that any one manufacturer is better than another.  As far as quality and fit and finish it is hard to top some of the craftsmen like Bettinardi and Nead or David Mills for that matter.

The best putter is the one you made the last money shot with!....LOL

I think overall, the Ping putters rule, but I don't have one.....I use a Nike Method Drone or a Slotline SSi...both are 365 gram heads so they are a bit heavier than most other putters.  It's just what i got used to.

There's no best putter. Just like there's no best driver or equipment manufacturer. They all make a product that works for someone out there. I've had putters from every manufacturer on that list and a bunch that aren't. Currently, I play a 1 of 1 boutique putter (Mannkrafted). Why? Because I was able to design the look and every aspect about it and it fits me perfect. I make a lot of putts with it. It goes cold, I'll get another out of the rotation and put it in the bag. None are better than the other, just depends on what I'm making putts with. Brand loyalty is something a lot of people practice as vanity golfers as opposed to playing what works. Who cares what the name on it is? Does the ball go in the hole? That should be the most important aspect.

I think the putter which comfertable for your play is the best putter for you. Every one is using diffrent-diffrent putter according to their needs and requriments. I am plyaing with MGA and all the American Golf playes are using diffrent putters.

I really don't see the link between putter brands and minority golfers. So why bother posting the link in this forum?

Because it's an open forum and I presume the point he's making is that putters are personal and the folks he plays with all use different putters.  That plus he appears to be proud to be associated with MGA.

I presume the other point he (or she) is making in the other post concerning 5 things you must learn in golf is equally ethnically challenging? Or maybe race has no real relevance in discussing golf equipment or golf techniques. I'll just post a link to the R&A for the hell of it since it's an open forum and has no relevance either.

No wasn't going to comment on it but since the can of worms has been opened. Why is there a need for a "minority golf association"? Why a need for any minority association really? We talk about wanting to get rid of racism and oppression yet groups for this or that race/ethnicity still exist. We'll never progress as long as these types of groups exist. How about the human being golf association? Because honestly that's what we all are. Human beings. We don't need identifiers of race, creed, religion or origin creeping into golf like it is everywhere else

Personally I have been a Ping fan for many years. With that being said there are many big name companies that make great putters. This may seem strange coming from me but if it was not Ping it would probably be Nike and I do have a Method 003 that is a pretty nice putter. I guess since I have mostly custom clubs in my bag if I went that route with a putter I would probably have Llamont build one for me from scratch fitting and all. But for me hands down it is Ping

Arguably, there is no stick in the bag that is more individual to the player than the putter, and considering how many of us own multiples, and will move through several in the course of a season as feel changes, I think it is safe to argue that even for a single golfer the answer as to what the best putter is would be subject to change fairly often.

I'll look at myself as an example. I have three putters that I bounce between, and each are very different styles. I have an older TigerShark heavy putter, an Odyssey ( I forgot the model, it's in the sig though ), and a Ping Ketsch gen 1. Yeah, two mallets and a heavy but more traditional design head. I switch between them largely based upon how I am feeling, and what surfaces I am going to be playing on.

Around here, we have a lot of champion's bermuda greens replacing older grasses, but Bermuda introduces some quirks that make different putters work better than others for me.

In all of that, the only words that matter are the last two "for me". With putting, the process if far more mental than physical. If you think and feel that you are going to make the putts, you probably will. But if you have a disconnect with the feel of the putter, then it can be hitting laser guided darts and you'll find a way to create a miss.  A lack of confidence cannot overcome great equipment, but confidence can certainly make less than optimal equipment work just fine.

So, I think that right there answers the question. If you look at the brands and the cross section of products that they can offer to inspire the confidence needed to succeed on the green, you really have to look at Odyssey, Ping and Nike as they all offer exceptional products in broad ranges of styles and designs.  Many of the others offer lots of designs, but not always that many options within a design family to satisfy both the performance and the feel with a given head style.

If we are being fair, I think it is unfair to lump the truly custom putters with the retail mass production offerings, but that's just me. But at the same time, I am arguing that when it comes to putters, the stick and head only matter in their contribution to inspiring the confidence needed to make the damned putt.

Totally agree!  A person that has put in the time on the practice green to instill confidence in their putting stroke will be able to make the putt with whatever putter feels good to them.  Remember 5 years ago when Jim Furyk bought a $39 used Yes! putter and won the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup?

On an old subject... it doesn't really matter what putter you have and it can even feel good, but if you can't read greens very well, then you are always "hoping and wishing" it into the hole.  Not a good recipe for scoring.

Stephen I get why you are getting grief here but I'd remind the rest of us that we don't know him (or her) he may be young, he may be very new to the game, he may be on MGS to learn more.  Since I teach people from young to old all day almost every day I'm going to go the teacher route and embrace the fact the someone wants to ask a question here:

Interesting question but you've left off lots of possibilities and in the end you aren't likely to get an answer as to which is best.  If there were one best you can bet that the folks who do it for a living would be using it.

I'm confident that I could find a putter from anyone of the brands that you've listed that I would be happy with.  From that list I've had more success with Ping Putters.  I'll be honest, I can't even remember what brand my current putter is half the time and I've bagged it for 7 years.  Anyway it's been tweaked enough that it hardly resembles, in terms of length, grip and weighting, what I originally purchased.  It was in the bargain bucket at an Edwin Watts when I got it so it wasn't as if I was looking for a brand, I just wanted to get rid of the one that I had and try something different.  It's a model that is over a decade old.

I currently have only 1 putter in my house.  The one I use.  I own several other putters but they are all in other people's bags at this point.  None are allowed in the house unless someone is visiting.  I once won a beautiful Bettinardi from MGS that fetched over $400 at the annual auction for our Day School.  I mean this putter was gorgeous.  But it couldn't even come close to kicking mine out of the bag.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
