Traveling for business, no time to golf...

Heading out to sunny Scottsdale, Arizona for a business trip, kind of bittersweet though. I was hired for my new job Friday evening, now I have training this Monday through Friday and fly back Saturday. I was sent the itinerary and the shuttle will be picking me up from my hotel at 630am daily for my meetings and training. After my training the shuttle will drop me off at approximately 630pm, Monday through Friday.

Pretty bummed because I love Scottsdale golf. I try and go there once a year and was there this winter for three weeks already for vacation but didn't bring my clubs. Now that I've got the itch I want to bring em!

Those of you who travel a lot for work, how do you guys do it? Cab it to a range and hit some balls? These are going to be some decently long days, hope I have energy to hit a bucket after!

That's a tough break apprenti---Scottsdale must be right in the sweet spot for weather right about now, too!

Sometimes biz travel and golf mix, sometime it doesn't.  If I'm traveling west it can work out.  I'll try to catch an early flight and have time for a round that day.  Usually have a meeting or a class the next day and then head home.  Heading to Utah and Colorado next month - hope to fly in early, play in SLC, then drive to Grand Junction for a work-golf outing, then teach a class and then head home.

It's a balance -- depends on the purpose of the trip, but if I can build in a time slot on either end of the trip, I'll try to.  Otherwise, it just waits till I get home.  The new facility as the Minneapolis airport could be useful - I can get to the airport a little early, hit some balls and then fly out.

Good luck with the new gig.  What will you be doing?

Yea I wish I could have been able to book my own travel, because I would have booked an earlier flight and got a round in. The good news is that TopGolf is extremely close, not quite walking distance, but a cheap cab ride away I'm sure.

The new job is an outside sales representative for a technology re-seller/sourcing company, business to business, selling basically everything CDW has plus Dell. Pretty excited for a new challenge and a better quality of life!!!

It sucks big time.  I have been spending two to three days a week in either Miami or Las Vegas for the last four months and have zero rounds of golf played in either place.  I have one full round to my credit this year and that was Friday in NY with sub 40 degree weather and 30+ mph winds.  Hoping to play Shadow Creek in Vegas on the 11th while I am out there.

Going to be stuck in RI over the weekend - meeting with a new hire Monday and Tuesday so it didn't make sense to fly back home to Minnesota Friday night and then back to RI Sunday, so my clubs and I will be having a nice weekend in New England...

It's just hit or miss really - sometimes you can and sometimes you can't.   I was in almost exactly your position (Scottsdale for business with zero daylight downtime) a couple of years ago.  Meetings were in a hotel right on a beautiful course.  It was like dangling a steak in front of a starving man.

But last summer, I spent a few days in Palo Alto on business, but I had enough flexibility to get my work started at 6 a.m., so my colleague and I could cut out at around 6:30 p.m and get some twilights in at the muni by the airport.  Rented AP2's, bought a few balls... It was a great way to unwind after a stressful day - perfect weather.

Try going from frigid NY to Las Vegas and have a suite at Wynn that overlooks the country club.....just painful.  On one of my trips out I met with the AGM for Wynn and he got me out to play a few holes with the pro on the Wynn course just to keep me from jumping.

I'm lucky that I am extremely familiar with the Scottsdale area. Was going to try and find a course with a rental set and hit balls for a half an hour before sunset. Instead, I remembered about 5 years ago I went to a PGA SS here. So I walked about a mile or so to the PGA Super Store and hit some balls for about a half an hour, also rolled some putts. It was an excellent time kill and provided me with a little bit of normalcy during a time where I feel almost as if my brain is going to explode.

Got an email yesterday from them about some class action lawsuit yadda yadda free $15 gift card. Also had a free $10 gc from I don't even know what, so I bought another Super Stroke grip to throw in the suit case for the flight home.

Was excited to see that Cleveland Square with wings and copper face putter and was immediately excited. Initial thoughts were wow this looks sweet, and then I hit my first putt and thought wow this is a piece of crap. Maybe it was the Callaway marshmallow balls I was using on the practice green. IDK what it was, but there was no feel. Totally dead.

Three more days of 630am - 630pm seminars and training... Probably going to go to the Super Store tomorrow as well. Maybe take a cabby to Top Golf. We'll see

I wish I had time to golf and do work, but I start late and end late. Also although it's 95 here, a week ago we were in the mid 80's. (live in Yuma and meteorologist)

Made it to Top Golf yesterday- had an awesome time. Never seen so many smoking hot women in one place, let alone in high heels and dresses hitting golf balls! Definite must stop if in Scottsdale.

Today I swung by Hot Stix to check on a friend, LaMont Mann. Woah baby do they have an awesome set up at Hot Stix! I wish I would have taken more pics of the facility, but I probably have enough to put together. Maybe I'll type up a little review.

The top golf nearest my home is about 15 years old. They built another one that's set to open next month about a half an hour away. I heard that they may bulldoze the old one be its so outdated.

For TopGolf business is BOOMING! They're popping up in all major markets. The Scottsdale location coat 17 million to build. For Super Bowl week, people were waiting 2.5 hours to get a booth. They did 175-200k in revenue each day of Super Bowl week. I can't wait to hear how the Vegas location goes. Supposed to be right next to MGM next summer.
