Is this a tour issue head?

I thought the tour issue head's serial numbers started with a T. I could be wrong though.

A source said Tmag stopped the T serial number last year.   Maybe someone can confirm regarding the serial number.....

Probably not tour issue.

I haven't heard anything about TM not using the "T" prefix on tour equipment serials anymore, but what is more baffling is that ALL tour heads would be CoR checked before leaving the factory. If it wasn't checked, it ain't suitable for tour play - plain and simple. The giveaway is the shrink-wrap is still intact over the face - genuine heads would have a hole in the wrapping in the centre of the face where they were tested. A lot more detail would be written on a genuine tour head too including a signature and a date for QC too.

An opportunist attempt to get a mark up on a retail head perhaps, but in any case not a good idea to buy from eBay and hope you are getting something that has been near a "tour".

Every tour issue SLDR I've scene had a T serial #. R15 is a different story.

I know of one seller that sells retail heads that are tour issue and have the "+" stamp on the hosel. I have one, no T serial but had a spec sticker and check mark on the wrapper from testing along with hose stamp.

With the SLDR they quit using the T serial. They'll have the + stamp on the hosel, right above the paint break and there will be a dot dead center of the face where they did the COR testing. The spec sticker is different than the spec stickers I've seen but without being able to see all the pics (it only allowed me to load 1 since the listing is now closed) I'd still lean towards legit, all things considered, because of the vault release that I've seen without the hole cut in the plastic wrap. I'd need to see the rest of the pics though to be certain.

Well if you look at the pictures, it has a toe screw.  That is an indication that this "could" be a tour issue head (except if the seller drilled the toe and added a screw themselves).  Also a retail issue has a head weight of 206g (wihout the sleeve adapter).  I know because I have the retail version and reshafted and weighted the head.  This one has a weight of 197g.

Regarding the "T" serial number.  Well it's true but for the gray head.  This the white version.  Probably different numbering.   How can I enter the serial number and confirm that this is the tour issue?  Is there a link on Tmag website that can do this?

TMag won't confirm serials and the toe plates can easily be swapped out. You can also buy weights

Maybe somebody can compare the link on ebay and this one straight from Tmag:

http://vault.taylormadegolf.com/sldr-white-460-tour-head/

I also sent a question to another ebay seller who happens to sell tour issue heads, the seller said Tmag doesn't issue T serial numbers anymore.  I can trust this seller because I bought a tour issue R1 from this seller.   And the specs matched everything it says on the sticker (I have a golf measuring gauge).    11.5 actual loft, 2.5 degree open face, etc....

This is a link to the ebay seller auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TaylorMade-SLDR-Silver-460-12-TOUR-ISSUE-44SXA0AN-toe-screw-Driver-Head-/371318899071?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item567454c17f

Also the toe screw on the ebay link has a hole cut in the plastic wrap similar to the tmag photos.   Now I'm 70% sure about this.....

But the sticker looks different and the face doesn't have a dot on the face.... this is where I doubt....

This is where common sense should come into the equation. If you have any doubts or reservations about anything on eBay, then don't buy it. It's simple.

Unless you actually go onto a TM tour van and an employee hands you a club, then any authenticity to alleged "tour issue" equipment is always in doubt IMO. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous sellers see the demand for tour gear as an opportunity to make a quick profit on ordinary gear with a few easily printed labels and a bit of BS thrown in for good measure.

Even some guys who actually work on tour vans sell off a few bits to make some quick cash on the side because it's not a particularly well-paid job anyway - these can be genuine stuff, as well as regular OTR too.

If you have the slightest doubt about the origin of any equipment, then I would advise you to walk away and save your money. For the most part, it's almost indistinguishable from retail gear and consequently any perceived performance enhancement is equally as small too.

If you want a tour issue head, just shoot a message to Will Peoples. His site is thepeoplesclubs.com or his eBay username is the_tour_van. He's located in Cullowee, NC.

I can tell you though the only difference in the tour heads and the retail heads for the SLDR family is the tour heads are COR tested
