jrmull
I don't know what I have to offer the forum, but enjoy anything golf. I'm in my early 40s and, while having dabbled with golf off and on for almost 20 years already, i've only taken it serious for the last two years. By serious, I mean really trying to get better and playing regularly (at least once a week) for as long as the weather permits. Haven't participated in a real golf trip so far, but my bucket list is growing :-) Love playing with my two sons - they're getting a much earlier start than I as they're only 5 & 7 and they do pretty well - looking forward to years of interacting with them on the golf course. Kenny B
Welcome to the forum. You have quite a few MGS'ers in your area. Sounds like you could have an outing. This is a great place to hang out and discuss anything golf. Thanks for joining. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Welcome, your love for golf is all that's required here so enjoy. I had to offer some encouragement for a young Dad. My sons are now 28 and 27. When they were young we lived in a very golf friendly place. I had cut down clubs for them and we were on the course early and often, by the time they were 8 a nine every Sunday during the summer was normal. At that point they were playing form the 200 yard maker (when they were 4 they played a few holes from the 100). I was never demanding beyond the rules of don't slow the group behind us down, don't talk or move once I touch my bag to start my pre shot routine and leave the course as you found it for everyone else (rake traps, fix ball marks, don't run on the green, etc.). My 27 year old called last night because he's coming this weekend with his family for Mother's Day. He wanted to know when he should start doing the same thing with his 4 year old daughter. The boys and I continue to love to play golf together. I'm wishing you the same amount as of joy that I've had the past two decades and hope to have for a few more decades beyond! BTW one of my sons made a hole in one the first time he moved back to the Men's tees. It was Father's Day. jrmull
Thanks for sharing and the encouragement - revkev, your approach with your sons when they were young boys is an affirmation. That's almost exactly the approach I've been taking and I needed the idea of no talking once I touch my bag - that's good! I don't let them talk while I'm playing my shot, but I haven't given them that clear of a line. That will make it easier for them to know when they can and can't talk. Thanks! jrmull
Hi All - It's been several months since I initially introduced myself and I haven't participated much, but I've been reading a fair amount of the forum posts. I'd like some input from you all on what you find (and enjoy) as the most helpful/interesting contributions. Obviously I can get a feel for a good bit of that as I read and browse the forum, but I thought it might be good to have some of you verbalize some ideas if you like or are willing. Maybe there's a thread or post somewhere that specifically addresses that, happy to check that out if you point me that way. What are things you look for and like to hear about from fellow members? I will share this, this year has been the best golf year of my life. Over the last two years I was learning the golf swing and it's been slow and at times discouraging, but regular instruction/lessons, consistent hard work and practice, and playing regularly (often 2-3 times per week this year) is starting to pay off. My scores are finally improving (managed to get into the 80s for the first time) and even rounds where I don't score well, feel easier than they used to. Still have a lot of work to do reach my goals, but I'm encouraged and enjoy the game more than ever! Thanks in advance for your input! GolfSpy Barbajo
Welcome back Greengrass! Congrats on breaking 90!!! Not sure where to direct you for specific contributions - I find it easiest to hit the Newest Posts button in the upper right hand corner to see what's current. And please feel free to start a thread of anything that's interesting to you -- even if it's to share an accomplishment or to show off a new purchase. We like that kinda stuff!!! Kenny B
Welcome back! As Barbajo said, the Newest Posts button list the most recent posts from all forums. It's a little confusing at first (it was for me), but to post a topic, click on the Forums button at the top of the page to the left. Browse through each forum listed (there are sub-forums) to get a feel for the categories/topics. To post a new topic under a particular forum, just click on the Start a New Topic button to the right on the page. Start typing. As winter approaches and people can't get out to play up north, lots of topics are discussed. It's a way to stay connected to the game when you can't play. Jump in and tell us your thoughts on golf equipment, courses, instruction, or golf topics discussed in the bar! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
jrmull
Thanks guys, I appreciate the warm welcome and your suggestions! Definitely going to check out the newest posts feature. I'm going to make a concerted effort to engage more - proficiency improves with doing, right? Supposedly this is the year of El Niño, maybe we'll get a little extra golf in this year - so far our nice fall weather (Central Ohio) has made so I haven't missed a beat yet..., but I know a slow-down is coming. Well, the first thing you have to do is post enough to get rid of the "BRAND NEW SPY" label. When I decided to join in the discussions, I really wanted to get at least to the next level. Seems like it was 50 posts. It doesn't take all that long! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
