RookieBlue7
Guys, as a preface , I was wavering initially on whether to write this review or not. I received this belt for free as a result of the twitter/MGS campaign. I contacted GolfSpyT about this before even starting to compose it, you'll see why in short order. I was contacted via AceOfClubsGolfCo on twitter informing me I had won a belt on the twitter/MGS campaign they did at the launch of their product. I didn't remember (and looking back I didn't) tweet a contest. I did post a response in the thread about skins to use/ideas for belts. I wasn't actually aware it was a contest thread. I thought they were just looking for ideas. So they contact me via twitter and I compile a message via their contact form on their website. The communication was great (and quick) and I was informed I had a choice of 3 leathers. I chose black simulated alligator. It's a classic design with a new spin. Now I realize this is embossed leather. I have no issues with that, as they don't try to hide that fact. They state what the product is and it's priced accordingly (have you priced a House of Fleming or Patrick Gibbons or the like?). I give them my size and the reason I sized up (I like having 4" or so of tail on the belt to tuck through the loop and my first belt loop). The belt arrived in about a week. When it came in, I was impressed. It looked great and I was happy. I unsnapped the buttons, put a buckle on it and started wearing it. I don't wear dressy belts such as this one except at the golf course and a few other places. I normally wear a 1.5" solid belt with jeans, etc and this wasn't changing with this. It would be a golf belt and wear with a few pair of slacks as the need arose. It looked great out of the box and I was happy. I've worn the belt 10 times now. I can honestly say that I could not recommend one to purchase this belt at the $60 price point. I'm not being critical, but the belt is literally falling apart(pics in a few). The edges wore fairly quick (the second round I had peel off on the edge). This isn't anything new to me as it's always where my phone/GPS clip is. But it was kind of disappointing to me that it was peeling during the second time wearing it. It's basically down to the raw brown leather at that point. Not a huge deal as most of my belts wear in that spot, just not that quick. The most disappointing thing? The last time I wore it (the 10th time), the button that secures the buckle (the back one) completely separated from the belt. I've installed these press in type buttons before and I've never had one pull loose, ever. Could I do that here? I suppose. But after 10 times wearing it, I wouldn't expect to have to. I've put buttons just like these in several items around the house, never had one turn loose. I'd imagine the hole that was pressed for this press in button was cut too large is why it turned loose from the post or the post was faulty or old/rusty, poorly made by their source, whatever. Regardless, now the belt loop on the belt slides all over the place and is useless for the belt. Am I being overly critical of the belt that I got for free? Quite possibly. But that said, I'm also honest and unbiased and I'd be kind of mad if I'd paid $60 for the belt and it did this. Hence the reason for writing this review. I love the look of this belt and I expected the wear on the edge as all of my belts eventually do it. I didn't expect the button to break like it did not as quickly as it did. And I want those considering the belt to know my honest experience with it. I'm not about fluff pieces and I don't expect nor do I ask for a replacement nor anything. I got this free. They don't owe me anything at all. But I did want those that were potential customers to see my experience. I also realize this could just be an anomaly as well. But I have to base my review on what my experience is with the belt. Will I try to repair it myself? Possibly. When it's not broken it's a fine looking belt. If you all want to bash me for writing a critical review for something I won, so be it. I won't be upset, I would even understand it to an extent. That said, I also asked about what the site ownership thought about me writing this review prior to compiling it and they said there's no issue on their end. Would I purchase a belt from them? If it had a fixed buckle and was stitched around that instead of using the buttons, I'd consider it a big improvement. I realize the people that want to use their own buckle like this type of interchangeable design. I like the idea behind it. If I could sent them a buckle and they could use it and stitch the belt together whee the buckle is, that's be awesome as well. But this button type is a design that's set up to fail (course I've had several and this is the first one that did fail). Love the look, the functionality is where it doesn't do it for me. apprenti23
Thanks for the review! As I keep getting fatter and fatter I am going to need a new belt soon. Or eat a lot of salad. I actually took an old brown hornback HOF and punched an extra hole in it hahahahahaha blasphemy I know, but I did! Used to be a big belt guy, now that I'm older and fatter I don't care as much because you can't see it, well maybe the back section. Maybe I should go do some sit-ups. RookieBlue7
I've gained 30 lbs in the last year. I prefer to call it building a tool shed.
