Odyssey Works 2 Ball Fang

The name would suggest a deadly species ready to terminate all comers.  The cover even sports a bloody pair of fangs and bullet holes that appeal to the manly hunter in us all.

I, like a lot of golfing tragics, have a cupboard full of putters, all that promised to make me a better putter as well as making those dreaded missed 3 - 4 footers a thing of the past.  The closest that has come to that was the Ping Ketsch that I read about here in the staff reviews.  It like so many others though is not perfect, close but not perfect.

Whilst browsing the latest arrivals in my club pro shop I came across several models of the Odyssey Works putters that my pro had got in to tempt us to buy.  His traps are usually pretty well laid and I couldn't resist the bait especially since I was experiencing life in the putting wilderness.  He is a very nice guy and lets us peel the plastic off and take it out to the putting green and have a fool around.  The model I took out was the two ball fang and I was dubious from the outset mainly because even though I had never tried using a two ball aiming system I didn't think it would work for me.  Boy was I wrong.  Imagine my surprise when balls started rolling in from every distance I selected.  I grabbed my Ping, thinking I was fluking those putts and my touch had returned miraculously.  Nope, I missed just like I had been.  Having the two side by side I noticed the difference in quality of strike and roll too.  The Odyssey was more forgiving and felt much softer than the Ping.  The ball seemed to roll immediately off the face which was that thin metallic mesh backed by what looks like the white hot insert.  I cant say for sure that's what it is so don't quote me on that just what it looks like which you will see from the photos.  Is it the perfect putter that will solve your putting woes?  Probably not but it sure helped me.  It comes standard with all you see in the pics.  The Super Stroke grip is a beaut and feels great in the hands.  The off set is perfect for me and helps me keep my hands in line with the ball preventing the dreaded hop and bounce that occurs when you get them behind the ball at address.  My short putting has certainly improved over the 3 - 5 foot range, my longer putting was never really an issue.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it if you are struggling with those short ones or just feel like a change.  I forgot to mention the weight - it is a 360 gram head and works well on fast or slower greens.

Cheers

Greg

A guy I worked with just bought the exact same putter 2 weeks ago. I played with him in a scramble last week and he putted good with it. One of my playing partners tried it and loved it and soon as the tournament was over he hightailed it to Golfsmith and bought him one. I tried it and it did not set or feel right for me but I will concede it had a good feel at strike though

I have a 2 ball backstryke, with the center shaft in the back of the 2nd ball alignment. I've been seeing a lot of these mesh faces lately, mine has the white hot. I wonder if I can get a switch out. The head looks very similar to the fang

Mcasey that is a good question to see if your putter could be retrofitted with the new style insert. that may be very well worth researching.

I know some hate inserts because they feel 'squishy', but I tried the whole odyssey line and loved the soft feeling at impact!

That being said... I am using a Scotty fastback and am doing great... so I am trying to avoid the temptation of buying one. I'd probably switch the grip to a flatso ultra, fits my stroke better.

- love the bullet holes/ fang holes in that headcover!
