2015 Pebble Creek Buddy Trip - Kissimmee FL

Recommended Posts

I put together a 24 man Buddy Trip each June.  Each foursome stays in a 4 Bedroom house with a pool and we play 4 rounds of Stableford Points to crown a Champion.  The other two rounds are set up as two man & four man Scrambles.  We play two courses (only a mile apart) in Kissimmee and stay in houses next to one of the courses.  The cost is $250/person for housing and golf for four days.

Below are the course ratings for my home club, Pebble Creek and the two clubs we will be playing over four days next week.......Of the 24 Players, half play from the Senior Tees (Silver/Gold).  The other half plays from the White Tees.  From my perspective, Remington is longer and a bit harder and Kissimmee Bay is shorter and easier.  We play Remington three days(3 rounds + scramble) and Kissimmee Bay one day(1 round + scramble).  The way I see it, the differences are about equal.  Some of the guys are complaining that the Slope difference at Pebble(122 - 111 = 11)  between the whites & Seniors should be adjusted for the other two courses.  I am not sure how to adjust Stableford Points Quotas to be equal.  anybody got any suggestions?

I found this on the USGA site and now am even more confused....

Scratch Golfer
Is one who can play to a Course Handicapâ„¢ of zero on any and all rated golf courses. He (she) can hit tee shots an average of 250 (210) yards and reach a 470 (400)-yard hole in two shots.

Bogey Golfer
Is one with a Course Handicap of 20 (24). He (she) can hit tee shots an average of 200 (150) yards and can reach a 370 (280)-yard hole in two shots.

USGA Course Ratingâ„¢
The USGA® mark that indicates the evaluation of the playing difficulty of a course for scratch golfers. It is based on yardage and other obstacles to the extent that they affect the scoring difficulty of the scratch golfer. Example: 68.5

Bogey Rating
the one number every golfer worse than a scratch should check before deciding which tees to play. This rating is the evaluation of the playing difficulty of a course for the bogey golfer. It is based on yardage, effective playing length and other obstacles to the extent that affect the scoring ability of the bogey golfer. To figure out this number, other than from looking at this database, the bogey golfer should take the Slope Rating®, divide it by the set factor (5.381 for men, and 4.24 for women) and add that to the Course Rating. The result is a target score for the bogey golfer, and is a truer yardstick of the challenge that lies ahead for the particular set of tees. Example: 96.3- which predicts the bogey golfer's average of his ten best (out of twenty) scores would be approximately 96.3 from this particular set of tees.

Slope Rating®
the USGA mark that indicates the measurement of the relative difficulty for the bogey golfer compared to the Course Rating. Slope Rating is computed from the difference between the bogey rating and the Course Rating. The lowest Slope Rating is 55 and the highest is 155. Example: 125

My suggestion would be to figure out everyone's course handicaps based on the tees they will be playing from then use those for your scoring. To determine course handicap you multiply handicap by the slope rating then divide that by 113 then round to the nearest whole number.

Let's use 10HCP as an example. 10×122=1220. 1220÷113=10.79. Then you round to the nearest whole number. In this case the 10HCP would have an 11 course handicap from the white tees at Pebble Creek.

For the senior tees the math would be 10×111=1110. 1110÷113=9.82. Rounding to the nearest whole number gives you 10 and so that player's course HCP is 10 from the senior tees at Pebble Creek.

Then let's stick with the 10HCP. On the holes with stroke indexes 1-10 that player's stableford score would be increased by 1 point on those holes.

If you are doing prize money then you could also have each person keep their gross and net stableford scores and do prizes for both.

Thanks jbil.......Currently, we record the Stableford Points  with a Double Bogey Max....then I take the top 5 of the most recent 10 rounds and average them.  Say my average is 19....so 36 less 19 = 17 for a handicap.   As it is, my actual handicap is 17.1, so subtracting the points average from 36 (Stabelford  2 points for par for 18 holes), gives me a pretty good Handicap.  I can then apply that to the course ratings and calculate the differrences.....

Another adjustment is recommended by the USGA recommends for golfers playing from different tees.  Essentially, figure the handicaps as jbil outlines above based on the Slope of the tees being played.  Then adjust the handicaps based on the difference between the course ratings.  For example, at Pebble Creek, decrease the handicap of the guys playing the forward tees by 3 (69.1-66.3, rounded to 3).  See Rule 9.2.c in the USGA Handicap manual:

We actually did this.....as when a player reaches age 65, we adjust +3 when he moves to the Senior Tee.

Sounds like fun to me if you do not get caught up in the handicap B.S. too much. How old is that Pebble Creek course? I know back in my mini tour days in the late 70s early 80s I played a lot of golf in that area. That area then was the Mini Tour capital of the world
