Considering a 913 D3 need advice though!

Recommended Posts

Hey MGS,

I am looking into upgrading my driver finally as I am still playing an original TM R9.

I love the club head with it's compact shape but I really don't like the feel of the stiff Motore shaft in it. (Played with a shorter V2 for a bit but just didn't get the distance I wanted).

I'm considering buying a 913 D3 in 8.5 with an XStiff diamana black 72 shaft. I'm a tall guy (6'4") and don't struggle getting some extra club head speed I'm just wondering if I'll see a big performance upgrade from the 6 year old driver compared to the 3 year old driver...

Regards

It depends on if it's a good fit. I had a quality fitting in 2008 and still game that same driver. I've hit and owned probably close to 75 drivers or more since then trying to beat it out of the bag, but I've to find one. My misses are from bad swings not an ill fitting driver.

Every company makes quality products now. Find a shaft that fits your swing and with the feel you want. Pair it with a head with those same qualities and you'll have a winner that'll last you for years to come.

Thanks for the insight! I think I may give it a try, I liked my short v2 cause it felt real stiff, really felt like i could square up the club easily so maybe the XStiff will be good!

I have tried both the R9 and the 913D2 vs 913D3 among a list of others. If you haven't tried it yet. 913 sound feels more muted and the ball doesn't seem to rocket off it- your mileage may vary.

As others will tell you , try before you buy and get fitted if possible.

I can see why the V2 felt stable/stiff torque is 2.2 compared to 3.1 for the Diamana Black. I am guessing it is the Diamana D+ 72 that you are referring to. Flight for the V2 is considered Medium and the D+ should be low if it is the X.

If you are someone who likes the feeling of the shaft unloading you will not like the D+, but if you want a lower flight and pretty stable shaft it might fit the bill.

Which Motore shaft do you have in the R9?

Absolutely try it before you buy.  Even better if you can get fitted.  I was lucky enough to be able to take one out on the course after hitting it pretty well on the range and I'm glad I did because hitting it well on the range didn't translate to hitting it well on the course.  I played nine holes with it and couldn't get it out of my bag quick enough at the turn  I'm still gaming my Ping G25 and can't find anything better although the Cobra Fly Z came close.  Good luck.

I'll echo everyone else's suggestion of getting fitted. Until such time that you get a proper fitting, there's little point suggesting any head shaft combo - or self-diagnosing either.

The biggest performance gains I tend to see are from players who have never been fit and finally get to swing a club custom built to their game. Some gains are quite remarkable I can tell you.

For the record, the 913 D3 is a great driver in the right fit - the newer 915 may be even better.

I play a 913 D3 8.5 with an Aldila R.I.P. 60 stiff. Honestly, the only reason I like it better than the 910 it replaced is because I like the smaller head. I see no performance gain over the 910.

I second that! Honestly, I miss the 910- felt pretty good and sounded better IMO, but that was about the only noticeable difference- aside from the 913's headcover haha.

If you get fit and get a good shaft suggested- since the 910, 913 and 915 all use the same adapter and screw size- you can get some stuff cheap- if you are not looking to buy new.
