Your best shot ever - or recently?

What do you suppose was the best shot you've ever hit?  Cant really put your finger on the best shot ever but you hit a pretty good one recently.  I'd like to hear about it.

I can't really think of my best shot ever but a couple of months ago in a pennants I was playing a guy who was a couple of shots better than me on his index, the format was scratch match play and we were having a real arm wrestle and we were playing at his home course.  We had both  hit good drives and he hit his approach to about 4ft with a seven iron.  It was a great shot and I knew I had to respond.  The yardage was right on the button for an 8 iron so I pulled it out of the bag and set up to hit my stock draw which is about a two to three yard mover through the air.  I made perfect contact and the ball launched high starting just right of the pin and drawing inexorably to the target.  It pitched took one hop and spun back a little to finish inside his ball about 3 feet away.  We both made birdie and walked away with a half but it sent a message that said I wasn't going away and he had a match on his hands.  I wound up shooting 78 that day and he shot 77 and won on the 18th it was a great day and the best match I have ever lost ;)

Earlier this spring on a par 5 I hit 3W from 235 out to 5 feet and made the putt for my only eagle of the year so far. Hoping for a few more.

189 yard par 3 with a large hill in front so you could just see the top of the flag over it. Hit my 7 right at it. Got up there and my ball was literally hanging over the edge of the hole. Jumped around for a minute trying to shake the earth and get it to drop to no avail. Tapped in for birdie. Close but no cigar.

Hit my 50* wedge to 2 inches yesterday on a downwind 147 yard par 3. Still not sure how it didn't go in but yet again close but no cigar.

No clue my best ever. I did hit a flag stick from 130 yesterday which was a good swing. Best recently was probably in the member guest a few weeks ago. Had a 5 iron from 208 on the par 5 7th that left a pitch mark 1.5 feet in front of the hole and the ball 4 inches on the other side of the cup. Nobody understood how it didn't drop. Must have lipped out. Was a tap in eagle. Too bad though, it would have been my first albatross. In competition no less. I definitely would've won a skin with that one. Lol

In a tournament we play match play to determine club champion of each flight. For this tournament, I was the 2 seed or so. The guy I played fell behind and I started to pour the pressure on late. To wit:  I was up 3 holes with 4 to play and had a long birdie putt for the match. Ended up 3 putting, lost 16 outright, played the wrong ball on 17 and tied on 18... for all sqaure. Rules are kind of vague on sudden death format other than you keep playing until one emerges victorious. We ended up playing 18 again because it was open. We both hit drives in the fairway, but he hits his well short of my shot. He ends up hitting 5 wood to 15 feet, I put it in the bunker. I hit out to about 12 feet, he misses but taps it home for a par.

It's 12 foot of pure hell. It breaks a solid 2-3 feet and is downhill. I struck that putt perfectly and I got it to break a foot in the last 12 inches of the putt. The thing nearly turned 45 degrees into the side pocket. I went on to win the match after another two holes. The guy running the tournament talked to me afterwards and said it was probably the most clutch putt he's ever seen in the tournament considering what happened.

My best shot ever was probably today.  225 yards, over a creek with not much room to stop the ball but somewhat of a backstop.  I pulled 3-wood and hit probably the best 3-wood shot of my life and managed to stop the ball about 20 feet past the pin.  Soft greens and a backstop helped.  I still dont know how I got a Nike Mojo to stop like that with a 3-wood though...

Wow some great accounts thus far men.  Loved your account of the putt Sportsfan, a near albatross for the Undershooter - how do they not go in!  Same same for JMike and how did Badgergolfer stop a Mojo ball - obviously had his mojo happening that day.  Keep 'em coming I live for this stuff!  I know not much of a life but...

A few others that came to mine: the 3rd par 5 in NJ was a true 3 shot hole for 90 percent of golfers. There's a creek that's a good 30-50 yards wide and protects the front of the green from about 90-40 yards out . Unless you are a long hitter, it's a smarter play to go driver iron wedge into the green and putt for par. It's a dogleg right off the tee but straightens out once you get passed the sand and goes downhill afterwards, so if you get a good drive that hits past the bunker,  it will release more than a shorter one. I've hit a few bombs on the hole that have gone around 280. (it's a bomb for me).

One day I hit a massive drive and hit a 9 iron to a lay up spot 20 yards in front of the creek (my low draw runs like heck on this hole and it's not impossible to get some great distance.) My partner says to me "do something for me put one down right there and hit your three wood." You have to understand, I bought the 3 wood because it was on sale. No other reason. I've hit the thing so many times 100 yards killing worms along the way that groundhogs tremble in fear. Even if I do catch one, I usually play a ball that doesn't go very high and rely on roll out for distance so I'm not optimistic.  Back to the story

I laughed at it like he was kidding but he said "you should be able to reach." h from 225 out, I put one over the green. IT's the most pure 3 wood I've ever hit. Ironically, I birdied the first ball and the second I parred. I've tried it a few more times and each time I'm either woeful off the deck or have hit a good one but goes dead into the water.

A few months ago were playing a 4 man wolf game. One guy we play with is a 300 yard bomber and I knew he would be picked on a long par 5.  I hit a pretty good shot 250 yards, the next guy hits into the sand. The bomber hits a 310 yard shot. I knew I had to go for it. I'm 225-230 out so out come the three. I'm just praying I hit it close to the green. What happens next was surprising to us all. I absolutely tag one on the green nearly at the flag. It's left of the pin by about 12 feet. Bomber puts his just outside mine to 15 feet. He misses his putt and misses the next one. His partner bails him out by going up and down for birdie. My partner is in the pocket. It's a hell of a downhill monster that breaks 2-3 inches or so I think.  I smashed the putt and knew I was in trouble if it missed but it hit dead center and dropped. We won the hole and my buddy remarked he never thought I'd hit a 3 wood like that.

This Thursday during a slow, hot, horrible round. I walk up to #9 which is our longest hole Par 5 582yd from the blacks. Hit driver 337yds, just a drool inducing draw. Walk up hit a fade with the 2i hit's the flag! Immediately goes into the green side bunker.

During the same round, I only took 6 balls with me during the round, get to 17 with my last one and shank into the water. Technically I am DQ, correct? Go to inspect the damage. Find 5 pro v1xs that had been picked out and dumped by the waters edge!

I'd have to say by the rub of the green you are not DQ'd but one lucky SOB and go ahead and chip one of those Pro V1's onto the green and putt it out.  Well done Fire!  Seriously unlucky with that 2 iron though

Best drive ever was at Coyote Springs. I was driving the ball like a madman, but I hit one over a bunker I measured at 240, caught the downslope and ridge and rolled out to nearly the green- 380 yards away. I couldn't laser it to confirm, but my two buddies swear by it that I nailed a 350 yard drive. I've had prob a dozen crack the 3 bill mark, but that by far is the longest I've ever hit one. I played the same hole again later in the day and promptly hit a one bouncer into the same bunker so lightning did not stop twice.

"Recently" actually yesterday, in my Wednesday Army Club Monthly Medal, I hit the best fairway wood I think I've ever hit or since the last fairway wood I thought was my best ever.  The 14th hole on the course we were playing is a down hill par 5 of 500 yards.  I hit an directionally challenged tee shot that was well struck into the left hand side trees about 240 yards down the hill and they spat it back out onto the fairway leaving me about 251 yards to the front of the green.  I pulled my 3 wood the JPX 850 set at 16 degrees and hit it pretty darn hard.  It started right of my intended line and I thought that whilst I had made great contact I had blocked it a little because of the starting line.  I was just about to loudly say gosh bother me when I noticed that the ball was starting to draw back online and heading for the flag.  The gosh bother me rapidly became "go you good thing go!" The ball pitched hard into the Kikuyu fairway that slowed it somewhat and rolled up to a yard from the apron of the green a shot of 250 yards off the deck.  I hit a Texas wedge to about 8 feet and drained the Birdie putt to halve the hole :)  That birdie putt made up for the four putt I had two holes previously ;)

Posted this in the how'd you play, but it should go here also because it was one of the best shots I ever hit, especially in the situation. After missing a 2.5 footer on 16, I left myself 2 down with 2 to play, instead of being only down 1. On 17 I left myself a 35 footer up hill, the guy I was playing was by the green in 3, but had no chance of getting up and down, so he was going to make 6, all I needed to do was 2 putt to win the hole, and in true me fashion I left the birdie put 12 feet short, luckily I was on the exact same line as my partner who had a 14 footer left for birdie, it broke left he missed it, and I actually mad a putt for the first time all day, so 1 down, 1 to go, in the match I had to give the guy I was playing a shot on the last hole, 350 yard home, water all down the left, and pond in front if the green, a must carry, I hit a 5 wood off the tee to make sure I was in play, he hooked his tee shot into the water, so we are both 170 out, even up now, I'm hitting 2, and he is hitting 3, I was first to play. I hit the absolute best shot I think it have ever hit under pressure, 7 iron, slight draw. To about 6 inches, he hooted his shot to the left of the green on the side of a hill, he conceded the halve. I felt good leaving the course, not because I played particularly well, but because I didn't give up and it paid off in the end
