Why is there almost nothing on wedges on this site?

No most wanted, barely any reviews. There is more on bags than on wedges. Whats the deal?

What have they done differently or innovating to wedges in the last twenty years worth talking about?

? You could say that about any club in the bag imo. Improvements and changes are very rarely game changers.

I've been on the site for three years or so. There have certainly been threads about wedges during that time and wedge reviews. None of these have been recent and so you don't see them unless you scroll down deeper.

A lot of us fell in love with SCOR (now Hogan) and that could be a part of it. Let's see what happens with the Hogan reviews. They will include a look at the wedges.

You could always start a thread on wedges yourself and see what pops up. I used to worry about them more but you'd have to pry my SCORS from my hands with a wrench. They have a very unique sole, two soles really, that take some getting used to but once you do you they make wedge play lots of fun.

I have been very curious myself. Also why I threw a review on my new mizuno mp t5s. Most of the reviews you will probably find here in the forums.

Personally I would like to get a "where is the cog" for wedges, Like they did for the drivers. Helps when you are trying to get more spin, might also explain why some wedges never feel right. Just some ideas

I had been playing a Clevelend, Titleist SM$ and Mizuno ....I HATED the Cleveland and loved the Titleist and Mizuno. I had the SM4's most recently and I am now looking to get some new wedges and am having trouble deciding between the SM5's and the Mack Daddy 2's ....... Have hit them all, a lot, at the local golf shops and those 2 are the ones I think feel the best. Would have been interested in seeing the a Most Wanted article about all the new wedges. I have looked into Scor but I might have to look into them a bit harder.

Ah, the SCORs.........after the review last year on the SCORs, I spent a good 3 months trying to find the right ones on eBay, finally settled on a 50/54/57 set that was in my price range. Let me tell you, that's the best thing I did. They are absolutely golden. I have become so much more accurate in my approaches from under 100 yards.

I think with the clevelands I just didn't get the right bounce. The swing weight was perfect for me.

With so many custom options scor would be a great choice. That and the grinds would be better explained.

Theres almost none for the mizunos, but you can see the change in grind. Since my irons were mizuno I ended up getting a more tailored swing weight / shaft combo with the mizuno wedges as well.

The V sole of the SCORs is one reason for their success......I don't dig into the turf as much anymore.

I think there is a bunch of stuff on wedges here, maybe not in the form of testing and reviews, but there have been many threads where they have been discussed in detail. I think that wedges are more personal preference than any other club in the bag, aside from the putter, finding a wedge is more difficult, because everyone is looking for something that fits them perfectly, and that is hard to find. Usually to find a wedge you have to hit them, you can't just say oh that looks good I will buy it, it has to set on the ground in front of you and many of the off brands, Edel, Renegar, hogan, are hard to get your hands on.

Since we have this thread and many of us must have received the MGS Renegar email lets talk about them for a bit here.  I liked what I saw on their site - what's the difference between them and SCORs (Hogan).  I appreciated the little schpiel on non-Sarazen based wedges - I could have used that before I put my first SCORs into play - it took me two months to figure that one out for myself. :)

I couldn't imagine going back to a traditional wedge where I have to be concerned about having three wedges with differing bounces.

At any rate tell me about Renegar if there is some familiarity out there - I was considering a Hogan 58 (it would fit my set better than the 60 that I currently bag) or going on ebay for a SCOR - I wouldn't mind taking a crack at a Renegar if I could get some feedback here.  I think I'll start a thread.

Thanks for participating. You're a really cool guy.

The Big Bertha "warbird" Great Big Bertha, and Biggest Big Bertha came out in 1998 (less than 20 years ago). This years BBA815 drivers are pretty much the same in your opinion, right?

How about TaylorMades Burner Bubble driver came out in 1996 and was under 200cc's foam filled not even titanium.

I owned a Ping Zing 2 driver which came out in 1994 (21 years ago) and it was all steel. possibly their first metal driver since the Ping Zing was wood- the gorgeous blondies.

Basically what I'm getting at is that every club has evolved except for wedges. Twenty years ago hybrids weren't even invented. People played 7 and 11 woods. Speaking of fairway woods, today's fairway woods are longer, larger, and more forgiving than the past drivers. Irons have exactly the same thing.

The only innovations that they made to wedges are now illegal. Sole grinds for specific turf interaction is absolutely nothing new. You can honestly say that the only thing they've really changed is that you can get them in different colors.

I'd also like to read some feedback about the Renegars.  I'm struggling with my wedges right now (except for my 53* SCOR).  I've been carrying the Nike toe-sweep for bunker shots, but ONLY bunker shots...  I'm swapping it out for the Miura 60* today, hoping it's more flexible for me.  I definitly hit full shots better with it.

Back to Apprenti actually SCOR and I suppose Renegar (if what I'm reading is true) have changed the wedge so that there is no longer a "static" bounce.  I do believe the dual bounce will be the next big deal.  OEM's aren't keen on it because they've just gotten people into the custom grind game - that's my thought.

Sole grinds and face milling, is what wedges will mostly focus on now that aggressive groves have been outlawed.

I recall those wedges as well - I'll tell you after playing SCOR for the past three years I'm never going back to a "traditional" wedge for sand play or around the green.  I used to have to use three wedges and vary the bounce between the three to provide variety.  Now I have all three possibilities in each of my three wedges.

Seems like a no brainer to me.   But I also have a shallow attack, it could be that other swing types need something different.

I ordered one of those a few years ago to try. I got one with a melonite coating on it. Their coating filled the grooves. It was extremely tough. I scraped it out somewhat with a carbide grooving tool. I sent them a message about how ridiculous it is to plug the grooves from the factory with their coating. Not even a response from them. I never bothered to put a shaft in it to even try it. Not a company with enough sense or customer service to be worth spending time or money on even though they look good at first glance.

Really, there hasnt been much of anything new or exciting going on in wedges and with the groove rules, the performance from one wedge to another really has more to do with feel than with things you can test, compare and prove with science (spin); so really, there isnt much to talk about.

Take any golf website and the talk is much more geared towards drivers and putters because thats where the hype is.

Hype and reality are two different things. Turf interaction with wedges is huge because they are the clubs that get involved in the widest variety of shot. How does a wedge flow through all different types of sand, thick turf. Thin lies, bermuda, rye, fescue? It's a big deal for a serious golfer.

BTW where do you see Dekker going tomorrow night? That's going to be must see TV at my house.
