Kenny B
So sorry! I hate shopping for cars. When I bought my R/T, I looked online for a long time. Found what I wanted at a price I was very happy to get, and went 200 miles to pick it up. In my community, there is not one dealership where I would buy a new car. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Jmikecpa
Ended up just leaving and not buying anything. Long story but when the math just does not work (and I am told that I don't know how to understand the math) it was just downhill from there. Apparently as the CFO of a multinational company I can do deals on a daily basis but can't understand a simple car purchase. Also would have thought the level of service would have been better considering the vehicle that I was intending to buy. Kor.A.Door
Look for a dealership with true price, that's what we did when buying my wife's car, it still takes a while for the paperwork, but the experience was good, they did almost everything through an iPad. It was probably the best car buying experience I've had. Lefties are always in their Right Mind

Kenny B
Years ago, I was trying to buy a truck from a local Ford dealer. I had checked the internet and knew what I could get it for in Seattle. That's what I asked for and the dealer laughed at me. We had already gone through a lot of math and scribbling on the workup sheet, when I decided to leave; it was almost 9pm. We walked out the door, and my wife asked how long it would be before they call us. I said tomorrow morning... They called when we pulled into our driveway!! They said that they could re-work the numbers. I said fax it to me in the morning. Well, the "red pen" re-work on the numbers comes across the fax as black, just like the original numbers and the bottom line was the same!! SO, I left that day, drove to Seattle and came home with the same truck the next day for $4K less than the local dealer's "Best number"! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

It was probably the best car buying experience I've had. Ive heard good and bad about that. Some dealers will still try to play games and not offer you any current inventives on a car with the true price. A friend of mine recently had a dealer tell them that they had to choose between the true price or 0.9% financing (APR was something like 4% with the true price). Im with you on buying a car can be a pain. I recently bought a new Honda Accord and got a decent price but not a great one. I did get amazing financing interest rate though. At the time though, I was without a vehicle because a deer decided that it wanted to kill my Camry, so I wasnt really in a position to fuss over the price. I usually know what I'm going to buy and how much it's going to cost before I talk to a salesman. Fortunately, I'm probably at the point I own my "forever cars," and won't be buying anything else, unless it's a "toy." I drive my old '07 Subaru and '99 Yukon as daily drivers and keep the mileage down on the ones I plan to keep. superduper
hmmmm depends what car you are buying? New or used? For brand new card, the buying process is just like anything else. You get a discount if you pay cash (I mean the full amount either by check or bank transfer). Check the accessories. Sometimes some dealerships don't even put a radio in the dashboard. Used cars. This is tough. You have to look closely at the engine. Listen to the sound of the engine. IF it's loud at idle, that's not good. Poorly maintained. I dislike buying used car because you have no idea if the car had been in an accident or not. My 1st car was a 10 year old car. But I bought it from a friend and it was running smooth as a silk. If you are buying a used car, I would suggest to bring someone who knows a lot about car engines.

I understand they need to make money but I don't want to feel like I'm getting screwed! If a dealer is in big with a vehicle, thats not your problem. My father used to work for a Ford dealer, so I could get employee pricing through him, even on used vehicles (I believe it was $500 over dealer cost). One time, they got in a used Toyota Tacoma that I was interested in but they had it waaaaay overpriced. I told them that I really liked the truck but they needed to work with me on the price, they told me to name a price (the truck was a few years old and they wanted $25,K for a truck that was $30K brand new) and I gave a price that was about $5,000 less that what they were asking for it and eventually, I got to where they had me negotiating with the sales manager. He tried to tell me, "that truck is a TRD, those are really rare." "No, theyre not.", I said, "Most Tacomas come with the TRD package and its really little more than a locking diff, skid plates and better shocks." Then, he said, "Yeah, but its a Tacoma. They really hold their value." I said, "they dont hold their value THAT well and its got a manual transmission. Nobody wants a manual transmission these days." Finally, the sales manager was like, "Yeah, we paid big bucks for that truck, I cant really cut you a deal on it." "Ok", I said, "give me a call when youre serious about selling it because I could almost buy a brand new one for what you want for that one." 6 months later they called me and were ready to deal but by then, I wasnt interested in a truck that had sat on a dealer's lot for 6 months. Seals tend to dry out when you dont drive a vehicle on a regular basis and I just felt like it was too much of a risk. Its a shame too, I would have loved to own that truck. My Camry had a tick at idle from the day I bought it and it still ran 200,000 miles without any engine issues, other than a leaky water pump at 130,000 miles. apprenti23
I HATE car payments and thankfully we haven't had one in about 5 years! The wife and I both have Acura's (me TL her TSX). We need an SUV or truck for so many things, and she wants a new Tahoe. Probably before winter we'll see if we can't get a CPO 2015 Tahoe. My next car will actually be the Tesla Model E which is set to come out 2018 I think. As soon as they are taking down payments and pre orders I am in!
