How Golf Helped my career

Along the lines of Undershooters thread, I thought I would tell you how golf has helped my career. 

 

On Fathers Day, my wife sent me to play at Cola Vista in Bastrop. I had never played the course and was interested to see it. I went off alone. As i came around from the third hole to the fourth tee, I caught up with an older and younger couple. 

 

The younger man (early 30's) turned around and said that if I didnt mind playing with them, I was welcome to join. So I tagged along. on the next whole the elder gentlemen's wife began talking to me. The general where do you live, where is your wife, etc......

 

i told her I lived about 30 minutes away but liked the area and was thinking about looking for a job down here. She asked what I did, and i replied I was a maintenance supervisor. She turned to her husband and said, "Tom, come meet your new maintenance supervisor."

 

Turns out Tom and Dustin (his son) have a factory in Bastrop. So over the course of the remaining 13 holes we small talk, with a little shop talk also. They invite me to come see the factory next week. I did. They offered me a job. After haggling about salary and a few other small issues, we agreed on a number.

 

i am proud to say that i went to my old job this morning, packed up my gear and brought it home. I will start my new job on Monday after a nice relaxing rest of the week.

I feel like taking time off to golf might either be [a] easier or  impossible. The first because he's ONE OF US. The second because he's WISE TO OUR TRICKS.

Nice one Bogey, it never fails to amaze me the people you meet on the golf course.  Sure you meet some dicks but I have met some really good people that have become good friends too.  Especially since I joined my club

Played with a gentleman who works for the department of defense (vet himself) working to find jobs for vets. Really helped my brother (3 tours) and brother in law (2 tours) out. Amazing who you meet out there.

Congrats. I've met a lot of cool people on the golf course. None better than a guy I played with who was 85. He remarked he couldn't play 18 anymore but is still thankful he can play 9. Made me realize how important each day is, that and any day golfing is better than not being able to go out.
