First Aid on the Course

Played today with a guy who got stung by a bee on the back of his neck.  It happened on the 9th green and he got me to have a look at it as we teed off on the 10th.  By the time we got to the 11th green he had started to develop a red rash around his mouth and down the front of his neck the welt had gotten considerably bigger on the back of his neck and he said he could feel a tingling in his groin, I'm guessing in his lymph glands there.

He said he had an Epi-pen in his bag and thankfully I didn't have to administer it to him because he pretty much made his apologies and hit the road back to the club house.  It was freaky how quick it all happened and made me think just how prepared was I if he collapsed.  The answer was not very but I know CPR from my military days and I have no aversion giving mouth to mouth just no tongue thank you

Has anyone ever had to administer serious first aid on the course?

Had an older gentleman go into complete cardiac arrest on the 9th hole of a course quite a few years ago. He had been complaining of feeling woozy for a few holes but both him and the rest of us playing figured it was just because it was 105* out and humid as all get out. Luckily I was an Eagle Scout and was always CPR certified for our big hiking and canoeing trips. First and only time I've ever had to use the training but im glad I had it. Kept him alive until paramedics got there. He survived and is still kicking it today!

I was playing in a tournament a few years ago in Palm Springs (no, not the Humana :)) and was stung by a hornet on my right hand just at the base of my middle finger. Apparently, it had crawled in my pocket and when I put my hand in my pocket to get a tee, ouch! I have been stung many times in my life with no reaction, but this time it swelled up so fast that I couldn't wrap my fingers around the club. After the round, I went to the pharmacy and bought some Benedryl. It was fine two days later.

While that finger was swollen, I used it a lot to signal my displeasure to the slow golfers on the course!

Luckily no, however, the executive course I used to play was located in a retirement area. A few times an ambulance was either at the course or nearby. Never really found out why, nor did I really want to find out.
