AP2 716?

Any news on their release? I thought the pro's should be bagging them by now, since the 714 were released in 2013?

 

As much as it hurts me, I think it's time to part ways with my MP59. After a training session on-course with the head pro, it seems like my mishits are being penalized severely (losing about 20 yards on toe hits).

 

After doing some research, the AP2 seem to be much more forgiving than the MP59.

 

So just kind of debating between getting the 714 now or wait for the 716.

@stevenhw8, if you are not getting the distance you need with the 59's why not stay with Mizuno and go with the 850 pro's?

I think my distances are pretty OK, use the 7i on my MP59 for 165 yards.

The mishits are what's killing me.

There are a lot of other options, no doubt.

I tested the 850 Forged and not a fan of that Boron technology, strange hard to describe sound and feel.

The MP54 were nice as well, but perhaps not as forgiving as the AP2? Hard to say, I didn't have a chance to hit them side by side.

 

The reason why I ask for the AP2 specifically is because I had a chance of testing them with the head pro and the he can get a pretty good deal for me from the people at Titleist.

 

Basically, I need something that looks like a player's iron, but with enough GI to make hackers like myself think they can swing a club

And it's not because of my ego, I just can't play with shovels.

Ap2's are very forgiving! Titleist cb irons are not very forgiving. Just sold a set to a buddy who's about a 4 (maybe 6) handicap and he gave em back after a week. Said the heads were too small lol

Did you hear anything from your contacts on tour?

I think the only preview were the 716 MB by Jimmy Walker.

I thought they are usually shown in summer and then released sometime in November?

Titleist is always late October/early November release. I'm guessing after the PGA you'll start to see guys with more sets of 716's in their bag and testing on the range.

You cant go wrong with anything Titleist.  Im loving my AP1 714s.  Im with you on the boron technology too.  Mizuno's JPX irons dont feel like Mizunos to me.

I managed to score my AP1s for about $600 new on Ebay.  Id bet you could get them for $400-500 one the 716s come out.

That is also a possibility, but here in Germany last year's models are not as abundant as in the US.

For example, after the MP59 were released, I tried searching for the MP58. At that time, there were only like 5 new sets on eBay and they were all built with regular or graphite shafts.

As far as I know, once the new stuff is out, the official reps no longer have the chance to make custom orders for last year's model, so it would be hard to get a fitting for the 714.

 

Regardless, once the 716 launch, they'll have the same price as the 714 would have now, so even though I wouldn't be saving coin, I would get the newer model (for better or worse).

 

And it will also give me the chance to check out the MP25.

I think the new MP-25's are definitely worth a look. Take a look at the article on the blog from a week or so ago about the new irons. They look amazing! Or if tungsten is the new rage just do anything with Ping. The i25's of yesterday have the tungsten weighting low in the club head for improved flight characteristics. Or check out our good friends over at a Ben Hogan Golf...

They look like something Mizuno would put out. Yes kinda like a cross between the jpx pros from various years
