RookieBlue7
One thing I don't like is they advocate twisting. The other thing that's a problem these days is that most divot tools prongs are way too long and it causes people to incorrectly repair marks. silver & black
It's amazing to me the number of seasoned players that don't know how to repair a ball mark properly. It was the first thing I taught my brother to do when he started playing 3 years ago... plus replacing your divot scalps in the fairway.
RookieBlue7
Replacing divots in the fairway is fine IMO, under 1 condition. That condition? The course doesn't have sand on the carts. If they have sand, never replace the divot. Fill it in with sand instead. They usually have a sand seed mixture and that's their preferred method, and science has shown the course her covers faster with sand/seed than replacing the divot. But, if they don't provide sand, replace it instead. That vs doing nothing is a much better course of action. He prefers that we use the divot mix to fill divots. He said that if a divot that we replace doesn't get water within 3 hours, it's useless and will just get clipped up by the mowers. I never knew that before and I'm sure it varies based on the area but good to know nontheless. apprenti23
Having run a fairway mower (and a greens Mower) before I will tell you that replacing your divot RARELY works. They just get sucked up by the reels. ALWAYS use your sand/seed mix if you have the luxury of playing from the fairway! As for ball marks- one of my pet peeves is when a grounds crew doesn't get off their lazy arse and fix them before they mow. If they mow the greens then get off to fix ball marks, those "repaired marks" will not heal. However, if they repair the marks, and then mow the greens, they will heal up after a couple days. Interesting factoid.
silver & black
Good info on replacing divots vs. sanding. My home course doesn't supply sand. The few courses I play locally that do, I use the sand.
mizuno_lover
Over here the method they prefer us to use to replace fairway divots is to knock the sharp edges in towards the centre of the divot and pour sand into and push it level with your foot. By knocking it in you give the runners a chance to grow into the sand and spread faster thus recovering faster. They've done side by side tests and that method is what works with the grass we have at the club. Pitch marks are pretty much as described. Course care is so important and it's up to members to lead the way. Social clubs and green fee players are always going to be lazy. My Bag Driver: G25 Stiff shaft3 Wood: JPX 850 16 degree. Interesting factoid. Oh I knew they didn't stay. I just mentioned replacing them when seed/sand isn't provided as it gives players that day at least a halfway decent/fair lie should it come to rest where a beaver pelt was harvested (I'm a digger, as you can see by my first pic in my hogan review, so I know people would be pissed if they landed in my divots as they're usually dollar bill in length). Fireinthehole
Duffed one off the tee today into a hearty divot. Slapped it out, best I could do without increasing the size further. Bounced into another large unrepaired/ filled divot. Unrepaired ball marks on a private course, of all place, doesn't make sense to me. Especially with the members playing every day.
