Tyson Freaking Lamb

Holy crap, this dude makes some NASTY putters!  I saw the F-Bomb one and was in love, then went and looked at some other designs and these things are just amazing.  Can't imagine the price but if my wife wouldn't kill me I would be setting up an order.

WOW! Those are gorgeous putters. The .50 cals and Hull are sweet, but I think the 3 skulls on the face take the cake.

I've been rolling the F-Bomb I received for the article photo shoot the last few weeks. Tyson's putters feel so good and roll very well on off center hits. It's my current gamer and that's no joke.

I emailed him last week about the elf shoe design, curious about pricing for his work.

The think he's working on his web business side, he just bought the Lambcrafted.com domain, but has some stuff on IG and FB. ( nothing about actual sales yet) pretty sure this is a side/secondary part of his machining work, as he plans to do only 10 putters per month, but they are super duper premium.

Here's part of his response:

"As you know, I do things differently when it comes to putters. I design, engineer, program, machine, stamp, weld, and hand finish everything entirely myself. I do not send out my work, and everything is 100% crafted in house. With that being said, I don't ever intend on making thousands of putters. Each piece will be as unique as the person who rolls it, and should hold its value for years to come. If you are looking for something that looks great and performs even better, then I'm your guy!"

He takes orders by e-mail, at tyson@lambcrafted.com

I LOVE his stuff, that Hartwick is unreal, but it's out of my budget.

Now, if MGS is looking for a second putter tester or if GolfSpyDave gets too busy and they ( and we readers) need a review, I'll sacrifice take a custom order and do a review on MGS's behalf, but I think Tony, X, or any of the other staff would happily pull that job.

Lamb-Krafted? Sounds a bit like Mann-Krafted if you ask me. Kid is a total hypocrite, calling out people for being copy cats and he's just as guilty. Does he own his own CNC Mill or is having someone mill the heads for him?

I'd love to see how he has the rights to use whatever logo he wants- ie sport teams, golf courses, etc. Wonder if he knows about royalties and such.

With all that above he does have some cool ideas.

Yeah as harsh as he was I wasn't expecting to see recycled ideas like the dancing font which make me think sorry for example, those head designs we've all seen before.

But love that he does it all himself here in the good old usa, but a cnc milled putter were a program essentially mills the damn thing does not entice me to spend 1000.

Looks like Mr. Lamb has been taking quite a beating in the main comments section of the recent MGS blog post. Obviously Lamb took exception to his portrayal, but I really did like this article. Portrayed Lamb as a disruptive force to the status quo. Remains to be seen if that is true, he seems to be injecting some excitement into the putter world.

The one thing that does come through in his work is irreverence, a healthy irreverence. His designs are fun, and he is bringing artistry to the space.

Yes, they are ansers but everyone makes ansers! The key is that customization is the next big thing in consumer desire. It's expensive of course, but everyone likes to show how special they are and Lamb is doing a good job monetizing on that. Plus he brings the artistry to back it up. IMHO

I know some folks have complained he doesn't have a website up, but if Lamb really wants to improve his image he should ask his family to not post in his defense. Not a good look brah.

He isn't doing anything different than anyone else. He is the one with the loudest mouth though, or so it seems.

Disagree. Or maybe more correctly it depends on your lens. People who only want to play the "everything is a derivative of Solheim" card like to paint everyone with the same color brush. I don't think it's that simple. I think Lamb is a breath of fresh air in what's generally a pretty stale and commercialized part of the market.

If you want to challenge the status quo, you're going to rub some people the wrong way. That's just part of the deal.

There's lots of true artisians that can take a piece of metal and not rely on CNC out there that also value their customers and know how to talk to them like adults without any snide remarks. They can also run a mill by hand and know how to shape bumpers by hand and soften edges and several other tricks. A CNC'd head with some stamping or CNC engraving does not a putter artisan make. Give me someone that understands shoulder melting on a putter head and can accomplish the feat all day long, especially if they're personable and relatable and can carry on a conversation. He seems like an arrogant kid that's priced over the market.  I also hope he's reading this thread and following what potential consumers are saying. There's lots of good conversation in here that he could learn from.  I posted this elsewhere, but it's appropriate here.

He's taking a beating on WRX as well.  Many, many, many stories of people contacting him, telling him they understand his price point and are interested in buying a putter and ZERO contact.  Many have emailed him multiple times with zero return messages.  There's a marshall on WRX that's been there a while that has ever talked about it.  Said he wanted to buy a putter, told Tyson as much and uses his WRX email and specifically said he didn't want a quid pro quo on anything, he wanted it at the price Tyson sells them at.  Told him he'd seen his IG and other social media and wants to buy a putter.  ZERO contact.  And yet he hashtags them.... People there were wanting to spend the money but no one is going to beg him to take it.  I just find it funny that all the people he's taking shots at in the article, he's copying their stampings.  From SC to David Mills to Lamont Mann to Byron and several others. Even his usage of A.S.S for American stainless steel is a ripoff is someone else. I also find it hard to believe that places like Augusta haven't sued him yet for using their logo and promoting his brand with their insignias.  He said he had permission on the buckles as they were for an NCAA tournament.  And he may be targeting the Japanese market where the more expensive something is, the more they want it.  But he's taking an absolute BEATING pretty much everywhere I've seen golf is discussed.  And is it kind of creepy to anyone else that his mom is defending and being the protective mom as rapidly as she is?  Reminds me of ole Chazz in Wedding Crashers "HEY MOM, CAN WE GET SOME MEATLOAF?!?"

Let's face it. No one is going to revolutionize anything about the putter because putting is all between the ears. We all know a steely veteran who still rolls a brass acushnet putter and drains it from anywhere. No head cover of course and that old blade is all dented up, but when you ask about the wear and tear he just shrugs it off and calls them victory notches.

More than any other club, it seems the putter is a place to show off design and artistry. Why else could you explain the futura designs from Cameron. Weird putters don't change anything except your mental game.

You're right that putter customization is not new. At least from my perspective, other smaller boutique putter shops, Carbon, Ricky Johnson, etc... are making pretty traditional looking putters. The use of different materials often for just the artistry of it is also different, but also not new. I think Lamb is different in that he is bring a fresh design that presents as a cheeky, irreverent upstart.

Nothing is completely new. It's the new perspective of the designer that comes through in his putters. I also said it remains to be seen if he truly is a disruptive force in the market.

Can you share who you think he is copying?

There are plenty of differences, but it depends on whether or not the differences are something you care about.

For me, it's the total package - the composite sum of the ability to work with him from start to finish and the overall design of whatever putter you create - from the milled necks, to inlay, to different engravings and stampings, the finished product is distinct and it's different enough for me.

It's clear he's young has some P/R challenges, but I don't think I could name another putter architect with more potential.

I just don't see anything new? You can get custom from Byron, LaMont, Bettinardi, Machine, etc.

There's nothing he's doing that hasn't been done before or that you can't get from someone else. I don't care, there is plenty of room for another putter maker, but don't say he's a breath of fresh air with new artistry it's like cmon seriously? There's ten guys doing what he's doing.

Like I said - I see plenty of differences. Clearly they don't make any difference to you. That's cool. Yes, there are a variety of people who can make custom putters. But they each go about their work in their own way. The fact you list four other putter makers indicates there's enough variation between them to create their own place in the market. Tyson's no different. I just happen to really like what he does.
