revkev
Yesterday's round was one of the most bizarre days that I've ever had on the golf course. I drove it well, hit my approach shots from 200-140 great, beyond great actually, hit my SCOR wedges very well 100-bunkers, chips, pitches and then there was the 8-PW. You absolutely can not imagine how poorly I hit those shots. I had 7 shots in that range, only one out of the rough and I failed to hit the green a single time, in fact I only came close to hitting the green once. I know that I was swaying instead of rotating, I don't know why and why with only those clubs. The shot on 17 was the worst ever. 118, middle of the fairway my divot started about two inches behind the ball and an inch inside of it, seriously. I advance the thing 70 yards and about 30 yards left of target. I scheduled a lesson for Tuesday. Guess what we will be working on. Kor.A.Door
I know all about missing greens, there are some days where it just doesn't seem to matter what you do, you simply cannot hit a ball onto the green. revkev
It's weird Kor R Dor - I can hit it on the green rom 200 and not from 110 - I can from 100 because that's my GW - It's like I had a total blind spot from 110-140 and it's not even a little bit bad - I hit it to 25 feet from 210 and couldn't get it within 20 yards of the green from 125. My playing partner was speechless. I wasn't! mbrodeur86
Dude if I could hit more greens I can only imagine how good my scores would be. I changed my irons and have only used them 4 or 5 times so there's that period of adjustment. My swing is really the other problem. With my old irons, I would tend to swing too flat and it would cause me to miss my target left. It creeps into my swing with my new irons every now and then and I'm trying to fix that. I'm learning to swing steeper and I'm still getting a nice baby draw but much more controlled. I am working on alignment and even learning to hit a fade again. revkev
Arm swinging Rev? My back was killing me, i just could not stay wide with those short irons, every divot was way right, way, way right. I should have just tried to hit fades. I realized that last night. I was going to hit the range after church but had to make hospital visits instead. Probably just as well, my back needed a day off. I am guessing the back has a LOT to do with it. I am also guessing you were doing the same thing with the longer clubs as the shorter ones. The thing with longer clubs is that the length gives you more time and more lever to make adjustments to deliver the club to the ball. Don't over-react. Let you back get some rest and you will probably find that your mid irons recover nicely. Its just frustrating when something like that happens during a round and you just can't get it corrected. Usually makes a complete meltdown imminent for me. revkev
It happened after the round - actually after grilling dinner - Friday was not a banner day for me. The weather has made me take your advice Mike - I have not swung a club since that round on Friday, my back feels great, I have the lesson tomorrow afternoon and it's supposed to be perfect out. So we shall see what comes of it. revkev
Better today put nOT perfect which was good because my teacher could see the issue. Instead of turning I'm occasionally swaying with my short irons. It wasn't nearly as bad as last Friday though. I mainly hit the ball well from 9 iron through 4 hybrid. Those were our parameters today. After I was done I flagged three straight 50 yard wedges shits which means that I was swing great at that point. RoverRick
Lots of times my issue with the shorter clubs is not turning enough on the back swing so that when I make a full turn through the ball, I pull it way left. I went out last Wednesday night, and had the easiest 9 holes of golf in over a year. I hit every drive perfectly, I hit 5 of 9 GIR and the 4 I missed, I was within 4 feet of the green. I had easy chips and left myself tap in pars. No bogies and made one long birdie putt and one short birdie putt. I never came close to making a bogey. I was determined to go out Friday and do the same thing but in a money round. Same swing thoughts, Grip pressure and tempo were the keys on Wednesday. OMG it was a struggle on Friday and all weekend. Overall, I played much better than I have the past few months, and won big money on Friday and broke even on Sat and Sun, but it was not easy. I had to work for every shot I made. revkev
Oh my Lord - not scotch either - just the IPad - too funny. Going back to Rick's post you nailed it - I want golf to be easy again so badly - It's not that it's ever easy but normally the challenge for me is to fit what I have into the course in front of me - I've had very little opportunity to do that of late - It's been more like trying to make sure I hit the ball solidly and then hoping that it turns out okay when I do or recovering when I don't. revkev
It's sad Kenny - I don't know if it's my age, my balky back from lifting my daughter or how busy I am at work (including the stress that causes) or just a compilation of things that will go away once say the stress part recedes a bit and we finally get the lift that we were supposed to get months ago. At 59 you do start to wonder how much is left in the tank for golf. Kenny B
It's just a combination of things, but I don't think it's age. I'm nearly 10 years older and had all kinds of aches and pains. I still have the passion for golf. Sure, my game has changed in the last 10 years but I still want to improve parts of my game that I can control. Distance is down, but my short game is much better than it was. Some of my stress is waning. My parents are now in an assisted living facility where they have all meals prepared, and they are not 20 miles out in the country away from doctors and hospitals. I don't worry about them as much as I used to. I retired a couple of weeks ago, so the stress of the job is gone, but I think I added a little stress about the uncertainty of retirement. Once I get my plan together, I will enjoy what life brings a little more. It sounds like you have stress coming from several different directions. Combine that with the poor weather you guys have been getting, and golf hasn't provided the relief that it normally does. I wouldn't worry about it and look forward to better golf weather coming soon. I still say it's a phase. Been there, done that. Enjoy the good things in your life while you can, and the rest will fall into place. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
